Tangent.... from this week's The Onion:

"Opium-Inspired Ad Executive Composes Epic Tums Jingle
CHICAGOŚ An eight-hour opium binge resulted in a towering work of advertising Sunday, when DDB Needham copywriter Brian Lisi gave birth to an epic 400-line radio jingle for Tums. "When Vulcan's fires spout and rage / within a roiling acid sea / let work the soothing tablet Tums / The Hell-sear'd forge within becomes / sweet alkaloid esprit," the jingle begins before detouring into iceberg imagery believed to represent Tums' new "Cool Relief" flavor. The ad, which begins production in June, is expected to run nearly 90 minutes."

I respect him too for his daring spirit, and have been a huge fan of the erowid site for many years now, but I think I would just be very scared to try it, and thats why I said "ridiculous".

the plant/mind/body interaction is always interesting...

Well, no, it isn't. Where do you suppose the things you drink, smoke, or stuff up your ass came from?

From people like this fellow. I applaud his experimental spirit, and his courage or stupidity in using his own brain as the test bed.

Well, OK, first try of something he can find no info on, and he mixed it with another substance. Stupidity.

But it was brave and exploratory stupidity!

DISCLAIMER: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ABSINTHE!

That said, the news is not that unexpected.

"Jonathan Ott (1993) reports psychoactive effects from smoking Artemisia Absinthium, an assertion that I have been able to verify" (Dale Pendell, 1995)

The risk here is that people, by isolating the active principle, and using too much of it, may get into trouble.

There is a paralell with coca leaves. People who live (and toil) at high altitudes (Peru and Bolivia) have chewed coca leaves for ages with no ill effect. It was only when the active principle was isolated that problems began.

Appears to be very similar to smoking pcp, minus the whole paranoid/very bad hallucinations... I saw gnomes, bad evil gnomes, not elfs myself. Or was that genomes... oh well, whatever, never was good in recombinant dna class! Not much better at gardening either. How about those Tigers? Never get off the boat!

[Editor's note: Professional pcp smoker toking on a closed track. Don't try this at home, or anywhere for that matter!]
