robertsmith, you probably just don't want to go there.

If you do, do it as a club with a fairly high membership fee, a BYOB affair.

You, who will be a member, bring the booze. And share.

I don't know if absinthe is technically illegal in NYC. However, before I found it via the internet, I contacted an alcohol distributor in NYC who responded to my request with indignation, as if I was asking them to do something wrong. I have seen absente in stores gift boxed with 2 glasses.

Absinthe is technically illegal everywhere in the US, since FDA regulations ban the use of wormwood in beverages. ABSENTE is not absinthe, since it contains not A. absinthium, and is thus just as legal as any other liquor.

About 5 years ago, Jim Fittipaldi held Wednesday night speakeasies in the downtown L.A. warehouse district and they were a big success. His loft was huge, with many sofas, a decent pool table, card tables and a bar. He didn't serve absinthe back then; maybe he does now ...

Sounds great, you should do it again.

perruche,

thats exactly how I did the tasting. I did not charge for the absinthe. I charged $50 per person for an entry fee. This covered the costs of renting the venue and paying to staff the event.
I offered 13 different absinthes. Each person in attendance received approx. a half glass of each absinthe. No money was exchanged inside the venue. Not even tips.
