Perhaps Pikkle could take robertsmith under his wing as his apprentice trickster?
Posted on Saturday, June 8, 2002 - 4:21 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

you state the truth. You've got guts.
If robert had to go, so should have pikkle.
But, pikkle is connected. Poor robertsmith ain't nothin' but a dweeb with no connections.
pikkle's sole function in this forum has been to
make a mockery of it. And perhaps he's the smartest of us all. Perhaps we've come to take all this shit too seriously. pikkle may be delivering a zen teaching. But, if this place allows for the trickster teachings of pikkle, than
certainly it should embrace a novice prankster like robertsmith.
artemis, we've been wrong all along. Old fuckers like ourselves aren't quick enough anymore to detect crazy wisdom in our midsts. pikkle ain't a drunken, over-the-hill frat boy with an unhealthy
fixation on other men's pricks, he's the new renaissance man: he not only can blow smoke rings out of his asshole, he can mesmerize beautiful goth chicks into thinking he's the shit.

>> "62 posts in 24 hours, 95% of them saying
>> absolutely fucking nothing"

> That's quite subjective my dear Artman...

Fair enough, but I'll tell you what's NOT subjective. You ever see a laser sight? You couldn't see that little red dot between your eyes, but I could. Contrary to what the Houseboy wrote, it was NOT "just Robert". A grenade was rolled into the room intended for you AND Robert, and Robert fell on it. This I know; I'm not guessing. I saw the bills of Oyer and Terminer.

Robert had no friends among the friends of Kallisti and that's why he's gone. You have a friend foremost among the friends of Kallisti and that's why you're still here.

To answer Marc, what I was talking about is this: I hit the button that reads "Last Day", and on one page, I counted 62 posts by Pikkle. I stand by my (subjective) statement that most of them were crap.

Then I see a thread that's the kind I like to answer, and the ONLY responses in it are off-topic, and from who? Marc, who brought charges, and Pikkle the accused, now resting comfortable with the laser sight turned off, and up to his (as far as I can tell) same old shit.

But look, this is Kallisti's house and she can do as she pleases. I'm certainly not without guilt and hypocrisy myself.

Rabid's answer is as usual workable and simple. If everybody will show some restraint, we'll be fine.

I'm not jaded. I still believe in the power and glory of rock and roll, the ability of a good book or film to change your life, the orgasm that'll open up the top of your skull and let the stars tumble in, the new drug with a clean high and no crash, the guru who really has the answers, the politician who tells the truth,
the frustrated actor/waitress who doesn't spit in your soup, and the Czech absinthe that really does contain mindboggling quantities of thujone.

What I'm listening to:
Andrew W.K., White Stripes, Les Troi Soleils,
Hyped To Death compilations of early DIY punk and power pop.

What I'm reading:
The Bad And The Beautiful, a history of Hollywood scandals in the '50s. Freezer Burn by Joe R. Lansdale. God Is A Bullet by Boston Teran.

What I'm watching:
DVD transfers of McCabe And Mrs. Miller, Blue Velvet, The Wicker Man, Audition (an intense Japanese psycho-sexual splatter flick directed by Takashi Miike).

I can't say a bad thing about any of the old-timers that you mentioned - I really do like them all and enjoy their posts (yup, even you, RubeMaster... uh, I mean Anatomist.) Therefore, I withdraw the use of the word "catty" although I'm sure I could make a case for it somehow, but when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. However, I won't back down from using "jaded". Perhaps you can argue the semantics of that particular word, but you know what I mean. There is a reason why things happened as they did, the lights went out and the roaches moved in.

I disagree about the new-breed being nasty and mean-spirited; maybe a couple, but there have also a couple of mean-spirited old-breed as well so I'd say it's a draw and therefore neutralized. I find much of what's going on now to be mostly repetitive and boring, but not mean.

and lets not forget pikkle. Or shall we.
pikkle is the closest thing the forum has to a
sideshow geek. Just watch what happens when you say the word "chicken" around him.

I don't think the "old-timers" have been catty,
if by "old-timers" you mean people like anatomist, artemis, blackjack, hobgoblin, chevalier, petermarc, ordinaire, justin etc.
Check out their posts. They're good people, thoughtful and fair. Its some of the "young breed" that can get pretty nasty and mean-spirited. For example, that aroquentin creep.
Now, I fall somewhere in the middle. I've never grown up. I am a walking contradiction. Then there's the bonafide freak of nature, the spawn of some infernal emission from Beezelbub's
bunghole, a breed apart. Of course I'm referring to head. head is currently the subject of an extended study called The head Prophecies. The purpose of this study is to determine whether head is fact or fiction; the figment of a deranged mind or an actual manifestation of the

marc - point taken, I repent. I still think that we get a bit too subjective and hypocritical at times but I accept that as human nature (including myself). As I've said before, this is Kallisti's place and I accept her rules.

As for the silent majority - post. Don't be shy, give us a review, ask a sincere question, do something. Old-timers, don't be so damn catty and jaded, share your knowledge and answer questions. If the interesting stuff never finds its way into a thread, I'll start thinking about Britney again and join the frat-party.

I just re-read your post below.
What 64 posts are you referring to?
The only conversation that I had with pikkle was regarding The Ramones and rock and roll. I thought it was a pretty good discussion. Certainly relevant on the day that Dee Dee died.
And certainly relevant in a forum with so many music fans. And the posts were restricted to a forum called DEE DEE RAMONE. If you didn't like thread, you should have avoided it, instead of counting the number of posts.

You know what? Why don't we just try- for each other's sake- not to post banality?

Post the insightful, the funny, the bizarre.

Don't post 'nice day out today, huh?'

Bang for buck, goddamnit.

I know banal is a subjectively defined word. Ask yourself- am I talking to hear myself here, or do I think someone would dig this? Would I care to see this?

And maybe we will suprise ourselves with just how fucking cool and smart we all really are again.

We are, you know.

It's nothing to do with the booze. It's the people who tend to show up looking for it.

Rockstars, scholars, hard core Christians, goths and punks and rednecks, stan worshipping vegetarian buddhists with tinfoil hats to keep out the government mind control rays.

Artists and writers and dadaist anti artists. Scientists and alchemists, for the luv of gawd!

Why, with such massive amount of cool, have we stopped sharing that, and started sharing boob jokes?

"It ain't a comfortable place for new folks to visit, particularly women. This site was created by a woman, but there are very few female visitors here."

You silly hypocrite, you.
Posted on Friday, June 7, 2002 - 3:32 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

and now that robertsmith is gone, we're coming after you.

as I said to meat nipples in another thread:
I wouldn't worry about it. In all the years I've been here, 2 people (that I can recall)have been booted. The robertsmith banning may have been a glitch in the program, but it ain't going to bring down this website. kallisti was bombarded, in one night, with e-mails in support of a private forum. Instead of creating a private forum, she did what she felt she had to do to make the total forum a little more moderated.
As we have seen in the past month or so, the forum can easily degenerate into a loud and unwelcoming boys' locker room. It ain't a comfortable place for new folks to visit, particularly women. This site was created by a woman, but there are very few female visitors here. As I've said, if the forum were someone's living room, there have been many nights I would not bring my wife into the place. And this shit wasn't taking place in or two threads, it was everywhere and it was unrelenting. Doesn't kallisti have the right to say "enough is enough"? Its her fucking forum and she was watching it spin out of control. And the shame of it is, instead of helping her direct things in a more positive direction, many of the members of the forum fled or joined in with bullshit jive; if you can't beat em join em. Out of the dozen or so e-mails I received complaining about the tone of the forum, maybe two or three of the e-mailers posted their opinions in the forum. Were they afraid to? And where are they now? Why aren't they thanking kallisti for attempting to make this plae more user friendly for EVERYONE? Not just a handful of highjackers.

One member of the forum told me they like to come here to drink and vent their frustrations after a hard day at work. They resented being told they shouldn't make an ass of themselves. They came here to be an asshole. Well, fuck that. This ain't kallisti's Primal Scream Academy. It ain't Fight Club. Its an absinthe parlor, a sexy lounge,
a place to meet interesting people and talk.

In an other thread, hobgoblin said that people will come and go, and that there going really doesn't have that much impact on the forum.
I think that is horseshit. Alot of very cool people have left this forum. I miss them. Alot of
new people have joined in. Wonderful. Is the place the same? No. Should it be? No. But. tradition ain't necessarily a bad thing. Standards should be maintained. Not because that is the law, but because it is good for the overall vision of what this forum can be and should aspire to. Madness said "fuck art, lets dance". Well, dancing is art. Having a good time, and being smart, creative and respectful are not mutually exclusive.

you're a musician. Imagine trying to write a song while your next door neighbor is constantly shouting and banging on the walls. There were times when some of us were trying to make some music in the forum and a handful of pricks were constantly trying to drown us out. Not because they had something to say, but because they thought they were being cool, anarchic, very dada.

Hey, I'm always up for a little auto-erotic asphyxiation...

Wolfgang, I'm familiar with Marc's "history" but his latest round of posts in many of the threads are obviously sarcastic. I agree with much of what you say but who (besides Admin)decides if one or two silly threads are okay? 2-1/2 or 3, still okay - but definitely not 4. Subjectivism and hypocricy are treacherous areas.

As for contribution, let's use me as an example. I could review a product but even though I'm definitely not new to *drinking* absinthe, my review would probably not matter to you since I'm not Ted, Don, Dr.O or either of the Marcs. I could ask questions about hogsmacking but you're probably tired of answering questions. I could comment on the goth scene in Los Angeles but you might not care because you're "gothier" thn me (I'm not saying that you think that, just an example).

People contribute what they can, some are drunk, some are lonely, some want to show off, some are just plain bored and feel at home here after a while.

I'm very confused by the recent wave of subjective intolerism. I guess now that Don's gone, the mob's gotta find another ****** to lynch.

my Kate Winslet comment was intended to be sarcasm.

regarding robertsmith, I addressed that, at length, in another thread.
Posted on Friday, June 7, 2002 - 10:48 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

Marc have a long history of writing penis style posts...but he never made the mistake to spread such posts to every damn topics and he did on many occasion contribute seriously to many discussion.

Personally I don`t care about a good dose of stupidity as long as it`s confined to one or two thread. There`s a problem only when it`s spreading like the plague and when it`s comming from people who almost never contribute anything usefull.
Posted on Friday, June 7, 2002 - 10:39 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

marc is obviuosly giving people a dose of their own medecine.

"62 posts in 24 hours, 95% of them saying absolutely fucking nothing"

That's quite subjective my dear Artman...
Posted on Friday, June 7, 2002 - 3:20 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

Paraphrasing, they say they resent the fact that absinthe is making a comeback in countries not as anal, legalistically speaking, as France, whereas its true home is Switzerland and France, where it is still tied up in legalities.

They propose to bring back the real thing and they're recruiting you to help them do it. If you send them an email, they'll let you know about the various projects in which you may be able to participate. And there may or may not be a newsletter.

Personally I'm sceptical of anybody with such grand plans who can't spell absinthe, and see no reason I should help some Frogs do something I could do in my garage better than they could, but that's just me.

And what has changed about this forum? Well, now Marc is HELPING Pikkle (62 posts in 24 hours, 95% of them saying absolutely fucking nothing) deface threads rather than bitching about him doing it. But RobertSmith is banished; now we're all safe! Frankly, I didn't like Robert, but this shit is wrong. It sucks. The stench of hypocrisy in here is worse than any newbie ever smelled.

I'm down with that.
Posted on Friday, June 7, 2002 - 2:57 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

how about Kate Winslet falls on hard times and has to star in non-stop action filled porn features...

"Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum, What might be right for you, may not be right for some. A man is born, he's a man of means. Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans. But they got, Diff'rent Strokes. It takes, Diff'rent Strokes. It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world. Everybody's got a special kind of story, Everybody finds a way to shine, It don't matter that you got not alot, So what, They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine. And together we'll be fine....
Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world."

How about a Kate Winslet thread?
Posted on Friday, June 7, 2002 - 2:14 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

Look, an actual absinthe-related thread and not a single contribution...

Maybe we should change the topic - who do you think is better in bed, Britney Spears or Christina Aguilerra? I think Britney's cuter and has a great rack, but I bet Christina is an animal in the sack!

If you read French, check this out. For all I know, they may be Phil and Ian. Then again, maybe not ... does anyone know what they're up to?
