"concentrate on here and now."

more pearls of wisdom from the forum's Baba Ram Dass.

you're right about the lack of energy in the forum. I brought this up a few weeks ago. I came to the conclusion that perhaps we've grown tired of each other. The forum leans heavily to the yang. The lack of significant female input has resulted in a men's club where absinthe is just an excuse to get together to talk politics, hunting (ebay finds), reminisce about the good ol' days, and arm wrestle. Discussion of film, books and music is way too gay for this crowd.

"Allan Keyes for president."

Who put the Carbona in the absinthe?

I call bullshit.

Anyone who's been on this forum for more than a year (which I'm well aware that you have been) knows that not only the quantity but the quality of discussions has declined.

And, no, that doesn't have anything to do with any one person, whether it's myself or anyone else. To state that as fact is short-sighted, pure and simple. Just like the rock and roll band that splits up, and never quite reaches those same heights ( see also: the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jane's Addiction, the Pixies, etc, etc...), it's all about the time, the place, and the *combination* of personalities.

There are still educated, intelligent, and interesting people 'round these parts, but you'd be blind not to see that the spark of vitality that once made this place so special has ebbed.

Go ahead... Prove me wrong.

I don't go along with 'the forum,is dead and all the enlightened folk have gone' view. Things are what YOU make them, not what OTHER PEOPLE make them. Making people who are no longer around the reason why you find things dissatisfying is abdicating your own responsibility. If you are dissatisfied then YOU are the cause of your own dissatisfaction. Things change, this forum changes, that's life, try changing your attitude accordingly. If you are here then it is up to you to make the place alive.

I've never wanted anyone to be booted off the forum (I've been opposed to the banning of every person that has been banned here) but some people have been booted off (rightly or wrongly) and some people have left. All these people are now history as far as this forum is concerned, they are of no relevance to this forum anymore. Let's not keep harping back to the 'good old days' and crying in our beer about how things were. The past is always gone, the future never comes, just concentrate on here and now.

Speaking of which, where's the rich man's Head Prosthesis??
Posted on Saturday, August 31, 2002 - 10:06 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

Everyone hates being rejected. I know I do. Check out this silly phone number- )504)364-4465. It's the one I give out to guys when I don't want to give my real #.

Hey Doc- I'm ready to go to the gym.

This forum is dead, anyway. Long-standing forumites (even those we occasionally disagreed with) have gone to greener pastures. Even Pikkle, the very poor man's Head Prosthesis, is no longer among us. And we all know that the chances of Jade ever being released are roughly equivalent to those of Jesus ever returning. Yeah, sure, it may happen someday, but I'd bet my nutsac that I won't be around to see it.

Don is banned... Same for Pikkle, who didn't do much more than waste bandwidth, but was, on the odd occasion, a little entertaining. Most of the knowlegeable old school, like Artemis, Absintheur, Eric, Marc, and all the others I feel lucky to have learned from and been enlightened by, stop by once in a blue moon, but it seems to be an ever-rarer occurance. There have been a few knowledgeable active newbies who have been not just enjoyable, but also encouraging, to watch. Unfortunately, I think that only one, Wolfgang, is still around to share that knowledge (and bravo, Wolfie -- you impress even this brazen old coot!)

What happened to this place? Where did the passion, the excitement go?

Until something unbelievable comes down the pipeline, this place is Tumbleweed City.

And please, please, please Kallisti, bring back the old single-forum format. Despite some complaints, it was a much easier read. The forum's definitely slowed down since the change. Thank you, though, for the continued valiant effort. If it weren't for you, I'd never have delved further into absinthe. But then again, it might mean I wouldn't be here bitchin. So, in a way, you really dropped the ball on this one... :P Thanks again!

Saturday morning rambling drunk,

Once I get back from exile in Stamford, CT I'm creating a "dirty monkey" tribute page in Pikkle's honor.

It will be a shame not having Pikkle around, he spoke as he thought and was not concerned with 'getting on the right side' of various people. You could accuse Pikkle of many things but never of being a 'sheep'.

if anybody would like to send pikkle an e-mail,
here it is:

anyone have pikkle's email address?
Posted on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 5:10 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

my new e-mail address is:

Why has the forum lost its energy? Have we grown tired of each other? Maybe its time to start posting poetry, prose and porn. Or BRING BACK DON!

This forum is dead, drown in a pickle jar...And this happened way before Pikkle came in.

We`r now flying over the remains like vultures.

(And Marc, the offer still stand...)

I have the feeling that things will be worked out between pikkle and kallisti. I wouldn't be surprised if he reappears at some point.
Posted on Sunday, August 25, 2002 - 3:07 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

Pikkle, you will be missed. Could you at least post the MonkeyPikkle picture one last time?
Posted on Sunday, August 25, 2002 - 7:55 am:   Edit PostPrint Post

Posted on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 9:16 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

after a brief interchange last night with Pikkle, he told me he was done with the forum, there was nothing more to say, have fun and all that. along with a profile filled entirely with "fuck you's" I assumed we were parting ways. end of story.
Posted on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 8:59 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

yes I saw his photographs of his co-workers
and the steel mill. They were brilliant and I posted so.

I love you, but why should I talk to you first?
When a longtime member of the forum gets the boot
I think it should be the subject of open discussion. It helps define the parameters of what is and what is not acceptable behaviour in here. I've scrolled thru recent posts in an effort to find where pikkle fucked up. I don't see anything. Therefore, there was nothing to talk about other than what the fuck happened and when.

The funny thing is I used to hate pikkle. It was only in recent months that I developed an appreciation of him. His photographs and a couple of his longer prose pieces knocked me out. I'm sorry to see him go.

I am sure you have your reasons for booting the pikkle.
You rarely act hastily or with malice. I am simply surprised and confused by pikkle's banishment. Mainly because I don't see behaviour on pikkle's part that is any different than prior behaviour. The only thing that i can imagine is that you ran out of patience with his ramblings.
Posted on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 8:22 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

perhaps you should bother to talk to me first ...
Posted on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 8:13 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

pikkle, kicked out? for what... being obtuse and opinionated sometimes? if it did happen it must have been a private matter.
marc- you should check out some of the stuff he did while you were gone... some cool pix and stories he had about work... i think you'd be surprised.

I received an e-mail from pikkle. He says he's been kicked out of the absinthe forum. I haven't been around here much lately. Did I miss something?
