It helps if you don't breathe at all while the glass is near your face, and certainly not while drinking...

It's kind of like sucking on a herbal styptic pencil.

Thujone Bomb!!!

2 parts Fernet Branca
1 part Vermouth
1 part Bitters
1 part crushed sage

Blend well and serve over ice.

I can attest to another effect- a stunned, "I can't believe how bitter and disgusting this is" effect. How anyone could gulp it, is beyond my comprehension.

Long time ago, somebody mentioned in the Forum that fernet contained thujone. I remarked that many years ago I was told about this guy who would get drunk on fernet (Fernet Branca, to be precise) and see "pink elephants".

Today I read in an Argentine newspaper that teenagers there now gulp fernet before going to discotheques. This is very unusual, fernet always having been an "old people" drink. But then, people used to drink small quantities very slowly, as opposed to gulping large quantities quickly.

Does anybody else have any reference to fernet producing any effects besides regular drunkenness?
