A quick coda to this totally-unrelated-to-absinthe post.
The "Hand of God" was only his first goal in that game.
He scored again. Started at midfield, dribbled past three defenders AND the goalkeeper.
During the last World Cup, they had an Internet voting and this goal was voted the best goal EVER in the Worlds.
I've seen it a few times and the word that comes to mind is "quicksilver". Gazelles bow their head in shame when they see this play.
So, within 90 mins Maradona:
A: cheated the Limeys (4 years after the Falklands war) AND
B: scored the best goal EVER.
Some misguided people in Argentina insist that "Maradona is God". Crap. Sainthood is enough.

Couche them indeed. Couche them in their hairy arse holes. Let the "hand of god" or Maradona or whatever sort these things out for them.
Thy will be done.

People are going to be a bit confused about the sequence of posts, but couche them!

Maradona was the Rimbaud of soccer. Pele the Verlaine.

Some may think this should go to the Monkey Hole, but I think that there's a threshold beyond which impudence becomes art.
Do you guys remember the "Hand of God" goal? For those of you who don't, here it is. Diego Maradona, against England. Not the first (or the last) illegal goal in a World Championship, but made famous by Maradona's comment that the goal was made "...half by the hand of Maradona and half by the hand of God."
Hence the name. Now the art.
A month ago, Argentina hosted the Volleyball Worlds. The GOVERNMENT printed this half-page ad in the largest circulation newspaper.
The picture: the "Hand of God" goal. The caption: "VOLLEY-BALL WORLDS 2002. WE'VE BEEN PRACTICING FOR YEARS..."
In the last few years I've had few reasons to be proud of being Argentinian. This was one.
