The very next day
everybody got up
To see if the clothes were dry.
The dogs were barking,
a neighbor passed,
Mama, of course, she said, "Hi!"
"Have you heard the news?" he said, with a grin,
"The Vice-President's gone mad!"
"Where?"
"Downtown."
"When?"
"Last night."
"Hmm, gee, that's too bad!"
"Well, there's nothin' we can do about it," said my neighbor, "It's just somethin' we're gonna have to forget."
"Yes, I guess so," said Ma,
Then she asked me if the clothes was still wet.

I was a 5 month old foetus inside my mother's womb when Kennedy was shot. I seem to remember overhearing something at the time and wondering all the fuss was about but I figured they'd probably tell me all about it in a few months time, so I gave a kick, turned round and went back to sleep. Anyway when I was born I noticed that my Grandmother had a picture of JFK on the wall right there beside a picture of the Virgin Mary and a picture of the Sacred Heart so I figured out that JFK was a deeply religious figure of fundamental importance to the Roman Catholic faith.

Well, Jesse Ventura asked Fidel Castro some tough questions about that, but he says Cuba had nothing to do with it.

The following days, watching it all on TV, I couldn't believe how strong Jackie was. She never let any emotion show in public. We saw her standing impassively on AF1 next to LBJ with her husband's blood spattered all over her pink Chanel dress while LBJ took the oath of office. The other images which stick in my head are Jackie and the kids at the funeral, and watching Oswald get shot on live TV.

I still wonder what the fuck it was all about.

My mother and aunt were cleaning
my Grandmother's windows.

God did that woman hate housework!

Any American who is old enough remembers exactly what they were doing when they heard. I was in third grade, and I remember being on the playground. A fourth grader had a radio, and he told us President Kennedy had been shot. We went back inside, and the teacher's face was white as a sheet. She told us the President was dead. I still remember being in that room, where I was sitting, every detail. They sent us home from school early.

I dreamed I was the president of these United States
I dreamed I replaced ignorance, stupidity and hate
I dreamed the perfect union and a perfect law, undenied
And most of all I dreamed I forgot the day John Kennedy died
I dreamed that I could do the job, that others hadn't done
I dreamed that I was uncorrupt and fair to everyone
I dreamed I wasn't gross or base, a criminal on the take
And most of all I dreamed I forgot the day John Kennedy died
Oh the day John Kennedy died
I remember where I was that day, I was upstate in a bar
The team from the university was playing football on TV
Then the screen want dead and the announcer said:
' There's been a tragedy
There's unconfirmed reports the president's been shot
And he may be dead or dying.'
Talking stopped, someone shouted: ' What?! '
I ran out to the street
People were gathered everywhere saying:
' Did you hear what they said on TV? '
And then a guy in a Porsche with his radio
Hit his horn and told us the news
He said: ' The president's dead, he was shot twice in the head
In Dallas, and they don't know by whom. '
I dreamed I was the president of these United States
I dreamed I was young and smart and it was not a waste
I dreamed that there was a point to life and to the human race
I dreamed that I could somehow comprehend that someone
Shot him in the face
Oh the day John Kennedy died
