I've had Huguet, but never a good glass of huguet.

As of now I've been unable to digest, or even swallow huguet. So I cannot comment on it's laxative properties.

Hell, a good glass of Pernod, the pastis OR the absinthe, does = a good poo in the morn, and nothing else. However, a good glass of Huguet = a good poo in 5 minutes.

Easy Doc Pat -- some of us hold Prado close to our hearts! Actually I personally prefer Prado over Pernod -- more of an anisette vs. a licorichette. Also feel the P'tit Lableu is closer to Prado than the Pernod.

I went ahead and got the Granier. I thought it was better than Pernod and Absente, but that really isn't saying much.

My first was Absente, which I used to think was tasty. I had some the other day and almost wretched.(I know, what was I thinking, but my absinthe budget is almost nil due to unemployment. Does Moonman take food stamps?)

1st one I tried. Got on me on the road to absinthe. I liked it. Haven't had it in ages, though.
Don't punch my balls if it sucks. I was more ig'nant then.
Will work for absinthe.

Can you actually taste food coloring, or just the lack of herbs normally associated with coloring?

The P'Tit Lableu was Really Cool! Way Blue! Actually, likened the taste to Prado, and did think I could taste a bit of food coloring in there as well, but the cool color made up for the off-taste. Still, not directly comparable to any absinthe I've tasted (short of Huguet), but a very good pastis.

The colour itself is fantastic, but not really natural :-)
I've tryed a couple of the Pastis from same distillery. Quite interesting, but I have decided to stay with Absinthe.

P'tit Bleue is quite good. Its very smooth; its not overly sweet like Pernod, more reminiscent of Ricard but a little smoother.

And the blue color is great; it turns your tongue blue too.

Yes, I have tried P'tit Bleu, altho not from SC. It tastes similar to Ricard. I can't decide whether there is an extra "blue taste" or if it's just my imagination. It tastes very smooth. I like it, but then I like pastis.

I hope Henri-Louis Pernod shows up in the U.S. eventually. There is no reason it shouldn't be sold here unless Pernod-Ricard don't want to compete with themselves - which they already do in multiple cases - witness the sad sight of all those liquor stores that carry Pernod and Ricard and no other anise liqueur.

There exists a special version of Pernod called "Henri-Louis Pernod". I highly recommend this to anybody! I've only seen it in France so far, but maybe you can get it somewhere in the US as well. It's better than most other Pastis I know (and I know quite a few) and even better than a number of Absinthes.

I've had Pernod, which is ok... Ricard, about the same, maybe not as sweet and I picked up a bottle of Versinthe while in Quebec and I like that. I'm not too sure about the Wormwood (I don't think it's in there) but the cost of the bottle was about $24.00 US.

Asking for Pernod in Quebec is pretty cool...

Muse Verte is the closest to good Absinthe. I believe they substitute sage for wormwood. Very dry, it requires sugar. It IS expensive, about $40 for 750cl, but you should give it a try just for the experience. All others (in the US) are sweet and don't require sugar. Henri Bardouin is my regular Pastis. It's much better, more complex, than Pernod, Ricard, etc. Its also only $20 for a full liter. It tastes about on par with the better Spanish Absinthes. Which is to say that Spanish Absinthe tastes more like Pastis than traditional Absinthe. But anyway, I like Pastis.

The Muse Verte I tasted a year or so ago had a taste which reminded me of Segarra, although I know this perception is not shared by others. I don't personally care for either Segarra or Muse Verte.

Versinthe is available, at least in one wine shop in the Bay Area (Beltramo's, Menlo Park). I don't remember the price (I didn't buy it). The version of Versinthe sold in the US is supposedly different than the European version; they substitute a different herb for the wormwood.

Otherwise, I enjoy a couple of pastis but they don't taste like absinthe: Henri Bardouin is very good.

Are there any good Pastis avalible in the u.s. that are comparible to the taste of absinthe. I Bought a bottle of herbsaint and Absente to try.
The absente taste and smells like Rubbing alcohol, undrinkable.

The herbsaint is ok. I cant drink it alone{the french ritual way} But id be willing to try it in a recipe.

I havent yet tried the Muse verte because its only 20 bucks cheaper than absinthe.

any suggestions?
oh yeah and ov course the pernod sucks,.
