"Maurice Barrymore, of the great acting dynasty, once remarked that absinthe was "the paregoric of second childhood" (Conrad)"

And so the thread goes back to absinthe!

Actually, immodium is considered an opiate in a hospital situation, and must be kept under lock-and-key as the rest of the controlled drugs. Yet grocers can stock the same on the shelf without a problem.

Before you get your hopes up, I know that there are inert ingredients that would make you VERY sick WAY before you get a buz, so don't even try it. Besides, you'd be clogged for weeks!

"and think -they used to give laudnum to infants!"

Those parents probably slept better than parents nowadays, who give CAFFEINE and SUGAR (i.e. Coke) to their infants!

There's nothing better than taking high proof alcohol, and adding more high proof alcohol and then throwing some opium in for fun.

Probably because absinthe have a very insistant taste (especially when used straight) that covers the taste of laudanum. This is of course only my opinion, based on what I read in Baudelaire`s Artificial paradises.

I stand corrected, Jack. I was under the impression that marijuana and peyote were the only two plants specifically banned.

Was the C.S.A. modified in 1996?

Thanks for the update. It is not healthy to be uninformed about Federal statutes.

And it's always a pleasure to read the law. So now the opium poppy is a "substance"? Who writes these things...?
