On the sleep issue, depression or anxiety can cause insomnia.

Things to avoid are watching the clock, spending time in bed when you are not trying to sleep, irregular schedule like changing your sleep patterns during the weekend or taking irregular naps, trying to solve problems at night, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, worrying about your sleeping problems. Talking to people about sleeping problems can make them worse since it keeps it on your mind on it and increases anxiety. You can't force yourself to sleep; it has to come naturally. Melatonin helps reset your body clock.

If you can't get to sleep, get out of bed and do something relaxing and then go back to bed when you feel relaxed. Just lying in bed trying to go to sleep doesn't work. Lying in bed worrying about a sleeping problem just makes it worse. Just relax and don't worry.

It's important to set a sleeping schedule and stick to it.

If you take it three nights in a row your body clock should be reset and you can quit taking it. Then you'll fall asleep naturally. Works for me.

Trouble sleeping, there's always Laudanum!(just kidding). It seems that there is a lot of financial woe in our little absinthe community, I'm right there with ya.

I second the melatonin cure. Stuff works like a dream. Intercontinental travel was a big part of my life for a while, and nothing got me time-zone adjusted faster than melatonin. It doesn't knock you out. It just makes your brain tell your body 'Hey, dude, it's time to go to sleep now.' Your body says 'Right on.' You sleep like a baby and wake up the next morning asking yourself why that used to be so hard.
