I don't think the answer is necessarily yes. I hope I won't be breaking any rules, but here goes. If I am on banned territory, please poof this post.

I think they just mean that if you are planning on making 1Liter of absinthe, then a 1 liter flask is going to be too small, because 1) to collect 1 liter of distillate, you have to have more than 1 liter that you start out with, and 2) even if you have 1 liter, and collect less than a liter, that liter of liquid is going to expand as it is heated. If I've understood the posts thus far, I think they are saying that it doesn't necessarily have to be made in large quantities, but that your outfit has to have a larger capacity than the final volume you want to achieve.

As for the second question, I have no clue. Sorry.

So I take it the answer to both questions is yes.

"One last thought, the recipes that Artemis so carefully translated start with 1 liter of alcohol. Now it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that a 1 liter flask isn't going to be big enough to distill that quantity of liquid."

Actually, those recipes are for 100 liters, not one liter, but the point is valid. In order to make 100 liters of liquor, those old boys needed a still with a boiler considerably bigger than 100-liters in size.

"If you need to buy a kit to distill, then you obviously don't understand enough about what you are doing to keep your stupid ass out of a burn unit."

Very well said, and you could probably replace the words "distill" and "burn" with other activities and care-giving facilities respectively, and apply the statement to any number of other "hobbies".

Some things on E-bay are sensible.

Now these are some sweet boiling flasks (and a good price):

TurdFergeuson

We want to be careful not to break any rules here, but I think I should point out that anyone who doesn't have the smarts to check out the historical recipes on this site shouldn't be distilling.

We are talking about something that is potentially very dangerous. Think about the fact that cars can run on both ethanol and gasoline. The two have similar characteristics. If you need to buy a kit to distill, then you obviously don't understand enough about what you are doing to keep your stupid ass out of a burn unit. (not you tf, just someone in general who might buy this POS)

One last thought, the recipes that Artemis so carefully translated start with 1 liter of alcohol. Now it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that a 1 liter flask isn't going to be big enough to distill that quantity of liquid.

The guy is obviously an idiot who is begging the ATF to come and arrest him. Do want them to find records of your purchase when they come and raid his home?

Good luck TF and keep safe.

Definately, the type of alcohol used and the quality of the herbs will play a huge role. But what about the equipment?

I guess the questions I should be asking are:

To produce quality absinthe...

...does it have to be made in large quantities?

...do the stills have to be made out of a certain material?

Well, they don't seem to include any Roman Wormwood (at least, there isn't a bag in the picture), so the coloring step can't be done right, regardless of what hardware they were using.

Boy would I like to see the look on this guys face when he takes his first sip. (from makeabsinthe.com)

"I'm trying a batch from a kit using the infusion method (simple recipie). Right now, the mixture is in an open 1000 ml pyrex beaker. Of course, if I leave it there too long, I fear a lot of the alcohol will evaporate, and some water too.
--the instructions say to steep 3 to 7 days. Is it best to go longer? What about adding heat from an electric burner to speed up the process (again, you'd probably lose a lot of alcohol from the solution). I'm using Bacardi 151, so I'll let it go three days, just to be sure. I over did it on the "mixing" part. I put the bacardi AND the herbs in a blender to mix it. I even sampled it, after filtering some, and it actually louched. But I'm going to leave it alone for now and try it when it's really done, before commenting further

The herbal products, the glassware? Work in what way?

I'm sure that you could get some type of distillate from one of the "kits". Would it taste good, or resemble a good absinthe... doubtful.

I'm not questioning the quality of his booze, pricing, or his HG capability. My point is that an individual who has a public site that blatantly sells equipment and such to make absinthe, AND also sell his homemade hooch on Ebay is begging for trouble, his customer service notwithstanding. Any buyer is well advised to beware. It is individuals such as this that bring unwanted and sensationalistic attention to our favorite tipple. He's playing with fire, and may get burned.

As a public service to the Absinthe Community. Well here's one that takes the cake. Awhile ago this website was posted:
