Basil has an anise taste. Some versions more than others. You ever try "sweet basil" Ocimum basilicum? It tastes like lemon balm and anise. Yum!

Mrs. Barsnake was in Kansas...
Made myslf a nice dinner, porter house, mustard greens and leek, tomato and basil with balsamic vinegar...of course some Bonny Doon Big House Red and Water.
The Stoli was an appetizer.
I noticed the Anise flavor in the tomato, basil and balsamic vinegar sald...
