Terrible. And arguably the second reign of Milton Obote (who was first overthrown by Amin, and then proceeded to overthrow him from exile) was even more brutal.
Now they have Yoweri Museveni, much less bloodthirsty and still much respected... but who seems perfectly content to leave Uganda a one-party state. I wonder if he'll really step down in 2006?

It makes me sad that he died last week-
instead of 20 or 30 years ago. I met one of his victims when I was last in Uganda. He had been about 4 when amin's troops came into the town. This kids father was one of the "enemies" that amin ranted about. They cut this kids arms off so that he could never take up arms against idi like his father had. So now he goes around begging ... |
