I just wish the little prick said "booze" instead of absinthe. What's next...... people selling it openly on Ebay?

For fuck's sake! Can't people just drink their absinthe and not hire a news crew to let the world know?

I have wrestled with the "Black Eyed Dog" constantly for the last 10 years, hitting rock-bottom at least twice (severe episodes) and have finally realized that I have to be on meds for the rest of my life to keep that motherfucker at bay. I look at it as a diabetic looks at taking insulin shots every day: It's a necessity to sustain life. Otherwise, I merely exist joylessly. Yeah, I find Jack Osbourne annoying too, but give the guy a break. If he tried suicide, he must have been in a really bad state to do so. It's not something you'd do just for kicks, now is it?

Nobody would be making these comments if he had died of cancer instead of almost dying from depression. It's quite common for celebrities to be severely depressed, and it's naive (and quintessentially American) to think that being a celebrity and having piles of money would eradicate depression. If anything, in a person who has a chemical imbalance which makes them prone to feeling alienated (Jack Obsourne), their celebrity status would probably only worsen their depression and feelings of isolation.

I suspect you don't.

I wonder how many people would be making these kinds of comments if he'd nearly died from cancer instead of depression...

"He's still gonna be banging REALLY hot chicks because he's rich and famous!"

Many rich and famous people who are able to
bang hotties of whatever gender they please report that it isn't all it's cracked up to be.
One of them, I think he was named Siddhartha or something, had a good deal to say on the topic.

What the guy needs is some long-term counselling and maybe a good personal trainer, if he really needs one (some people are just fat, y'know, and they're fine that way).

Why did he take pills? I thought the absinthe alone would kill you, or at least make you crazy. Too bad Jack didn't at least try to cut his ear off or something, THEN we'd have a story.

Genearlly speaking, suicide attempts aren't because somebody's life is bad by any external benchmark, but because they are suffering from absurdly painful mental illness. It is possible to "want for nothing" and still be in constant pain, and it doesn't mean that one is spoiled. It means one is sick.

Tisk, tisk, imagine how hard it would be to live without want for anything. I hate that kid, he has no respect for anything and were it not for the fact that he is the son of a star he would have learned humility at a very early age.

September 10th, Fox News:

"Jack Osbourne, who spent two months in rehab for alcohol and drug abuse, acknowledged that he tried to commit suicide because he was so depressed about his mother's colon cancer, which is now in remission.

"I attempted to overdose," said the 17-year-old, who gained fame with the rest of his family on the MTV series "The Osbournes." "Take a whole bunch of pills and drink some absinthe."

The interview [with Jack's mum, who hopefully won't mention the "a" word] is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. EDT Friday, September 12.
