My thing with Bells has
never been about the hype.
Because in my circle "the
circle of Head, that is to
say me" I never knew there
was a hype. I'm not familiar
with microbrewing news.

What I did do was visit the
brewery several times. Straight
from the nipple is the very best.
I agree there have been handling
issues by the retailers in this area.
But on average when they read "keep
refrigerated not pasteurized" the
folks selling the bottles pay heed to
the warning.

Just as well, since I don't have anything like that pig in a poke.

Mmmmmmm... free beer. Free REALLY
GOOD beer... It beats some old hand
me down "strings attached" La Bleue,
any day.

I like all those except the Urquell; I've had the same problems with it as with the Bells. Probably it's better fresh than what I've tasted from poorly handled bottles.

Head, the bottle be chillin, along with a bottle of Raspberry Tart from New Glarus.

sammy ain't bad... bass ale is still my all-time fav (so far), fuller's pale ale and newcastle brown follow close. now for lighter beer, pilsner urquell rates high with me or (baltimore brewing co.) degroen's (hefe-)weizen.

How's that Boon pronounced?
Artemis
Posted on Sunday, December 29, 2002 - 5:54 pm:   Edit PostPrint Post

Lindeman's is the everyman's Kriek Lambic, some people say pussied down, too sweet, compared to authentic Lambics such as Boon. I like Lindeman's about as well as Boon, but they're different.

I've been to Cooter Brown's, on the end of St. Charles by the levee, right? Impressive selection, indeed.

New Glarus Brewery, across Lake Michigan from Bell's, is everything Bell's could be, without the hype. The "World Champion" on that label isn't there by accident. In fact, NO Belgian Lambic I've ever had can put it very far into the shade.

Sorry, but when the buzz started about Bell's in beer circles, I tried it. It sucked. And having been in and out of Michigan on a regular basis for the last ten years, I've been tempted many times to try a new/different style of Bell's, succumbed to the temptation, and been sorry I did. I'm talking about their bottled beers. The cherry stout, I actually poured down the sink. The couple of times I've had their beer on draft, it was much better, so maybe it's a storage and freshness issue.

Now, if Head will call off the ass-whipping, maybe I'll let him open that bottle when I see him next week.

Zman,
Yessir, Lindeman's is the absolute shit of shit. I was just happy to find Bell's here in Atown because of the Head connection.

Partimes,
Once the Pros is done beatin' yer ass, I'm next in line.

Bells is the most overrated beer on the planet, and the cherry stout is downright nasty.

Yep.

Here I take off 3 months from drinkin', then I go right back at it like the Shaneshite hisself. Oh well.

To bad you don't have any Weyerbachers still stashed. They'd be extree lovely by now.

I dunno what's up w/my goofyass e-mail. If you have anything pressing, gimme a call.

Pretty much a year to the day, I find a place in the 'hood that sells Bell's. Cherry stout, specifically.
