They are very nice at Caves du Roy. And it was great to know of this place, because you will not get the same reception at most shops in Paris if you ask for absinthe!

unless you want françois guy, pernod-ricard 68° or oxygénée, (which you can buy around the corner from my apartment--caves du roy, 31 rue simart, 18éme, near montmartre, metro jules joffrin or marcadet-poissonniers--i've asked them to carry un émile 45°, but not sure they've got it yet) there isn't much else here.
of course, when i say 'here' i'm talking about paris in general...

I was kidding about Seattle, but seriously, if I were you I would contact Peter, the American among the OUI-SELS.

"I'm going next month and would like to pick up a bottle of decent stuff."

I recommend you forget Paris and go to Seattle.

So, sort of getting the thread back on topic, *where* exactly, Jdm, did your friend get that bottle of absinthe in Paris, and what kind was it? I'm going next month and would like to pick up a bottle of decent stuff. My mother is coming to stay for a month and my absinthe supply is in peril, so I need to stock up.

Beer in Amsterdam is about 2 euros in regular, non-touristy cafes. In De Wildeman (on Nieuwezijds Kolk, not far from central station) has lots of unusual beers, including heavy Trappist beers. Those cost about 4 euros, but they kick your ass.

Yes and snakebites also have black current in the UK.

Since snakebites in the UK are lager and cider, should I assume that a black adder is stout and cider?

I like Black Adders better than snake bites.
