This interests me because I may be staying in Bordeaux later this year. Was there or is there now any trace of Absinthe culture/history there? Is there any local Pastis?

So I'm in a used bookstore and I pick up an 1892 book on liquor which has a couple of pages devoted to Absinthe (causes epilepsy, will be the downfall of the French, etc, etc ...the usual) but it also says "although it originated in Switzerland, much of it is made in Bordeaux". Does anybody here have information on that, or was the book grossly mistaken?
