I would have to say that the taste of Kubler can be greatly improved upon by using such "tricks". It's unfortunate that the producers of said product do not spend as much time planning as we do attempting to rectify.

Very low temperature will accelerate the dissipation of "still shock"; so will sunlight, but since very few people know these things (or at least they didn't up till now), I wonder which of our experienced brethren has a new moniker. Any relation to the red violin?

Only stuff that had a chance of being good in the first place (i.e., honest products made in a still and not a mixing vat, especially one previously used for sheep dip) can benefit from those treatments, however.

The products I've poured down the sink were not made in a still, obviating those remedies. From what I've heard of Kubler, it could benefit from low temperature and/or sunlight (if it's not colored, that is), and although I wouldn't pay for it, I probably wouldn't pour it down the sink, either.

The trick is for those already tricked into buying it. A cancelation of trickery.

Markus: Thanks for the compliment. Your favorites are by and large, my own, with the exception of Kubler, which I have not been moved to try, though I have heard the new formulation is better.

Nonetheless, that is more of a reflection on what is commercially available, than what absinthe should be. Liqueurs de France is the only one marketing traditionally-made 'fine absinthes' on anything like a large scale. Hopefully soon they won't be alone.

To whoever spread the rumor that the formulation of Pernod liqueur d'anise had changed: It has not. Damn your eyes, sir.
