Oxygenee,

So you want to use the outcome of this war to score points aginst me. You're despicable.

Was I wrong on the scale of civilian casualties? Yes.
How do I feel about this? I'm very glad that I was wrong.

I have a cousin and a friend fighting in the allied forces over there, do you think I want this to be a long war? Fuck you.

You were also wrong on a number of your so called accurate predictions about the war (check them for yourself if you wish).

Saddam's statue may have been toppled in Baghdad and he is facing certain defeat (and I will be very glad to see the bastard die) but unfortunately the war is not actually over yet. Then there is the aftermath of the conventional military war, a few hundred IRA terrorists kept 30,000 British army troops tied up in Northern Ireland (an area only 90 miles by 90 miles in size) in a conflict that has lasted 40 years.

So just go fuck yourself you vindictive little prick, this is not an issue to use to score points with.

I do miss this guy, perhaps he can do stand up if his own people don't string him up first.

I'm sure as this all plays out, there will be more than enough of both to go around for some time.

I agree. I have no particular political axe to grind on this subject. It's just that I'm alergic to lies. Iraqi lies, American lies, doesn't matter to me.

I saw that,.....whatever the case it seems to be quite a dangerous site with rather dodgy handing of nuclear material.

>Did anyone say it was a smoking gun?

quote: 'perhaps the atomic "smoking gun" intelligence agencies have been searching for as Operation Iraqi Freedom unfolds.'

You need to read the whole thing more carefully. When you do you'll see some pretty funny bits in it.

And it would be kinda ironic (maybe that's not the right word) if all those people died over something that wasn't true. Maybe the right word would be "tragic" or "sad" or "criminal".

“Bush Peril: Shifting Sand and Fickle Opinion”
New York Times, March 30, 2003

“With every passing day, it is more evident that the allies made two gross military misjudgments in concluding that coalition forces could safely bypass Basra and Nasiriya and that Shiite Muslims in southern Iraq would rise up against
Saddam Hussein.”

Peter Arnett
Iraqi TV, March 30

Maureen Dowd
“Back Off, Syria And Iran!”
New York Times, March 30, 2003

“In cranking up their war plan with expurgated intelligence, the hawks left the ground troops exposed and insufficiently briefed on the fedayeen. Ideology should not shape facts when lives are at stake.”

Nicholas D. Kristof
“The Stones of Baghdad”
New York Times, October 4, 2002

“[I]f President Bush thinks our invasion and occupation will go smoothly because Iraqis will welcome us, then [he] is deluding himself.”

From this morning's New York Times:

"Oil wells were not set ablaze in large numbers, dams were not dynamited, bridges generally not sabotaged.
Chemical weapons have not, so far, been used against coalition troops.
Terrorists have not struck, except for isolated suicide attacks in Iraq.
Urban street fighting has been bloody but seems likely to end far sooner than most had dared hope.
Coalition casualties have been almost unprecedently low.
The inability to open a northern front through Turkey did not cripple, or even visibly slow, the United States-led assault.
Turkish troops have not poured into northern Iraq to clash with Kurds.
Unrest in the Muslim world has mostly been contained.
Refugees have not appeared in nearly the numbers anticipated (up to 1.5 million, a United Nations report had predicted.)"

I know its early days yet, but I'm sure I speak for everyone here in sending Hobgoblin -

"...saying that the civilian casualties from this war will be minimum, BOLLOCKS. The lowest estimates for civilian casualties is 70,000...and the highest estimate is 300,000..blah blah...This war will make the Gulf war look like a vicar's tea party..blah blah...

- our deepest sympathy and condolences at what must be a very difficult and sad time for him.

Hang in there buddy, we're here for you!
