Hell, Lurking involves not communicating, which I only do when I am pouring myself another toddy. Figure if I am online might as well hang out in the chat room as well, as I have nothing better to do on those oh-so-rare occasions I can drink AND be online. Besides, you never know when a fox is going to sneak up...

Hard to lurk when you are the only bastard in there with your fly down.

I'm an absinthe drunk.. nobody picks me up.

You must have run into AcidGawd, Sancho or Balzdeep. They seem to lurk in the chatroom.... although Balz actually communicates.

My TRS-80 doesn't seem to work with chat. I try saving everything to tape, but it's so slow.

I'm using IE 6.0.26 on Win XP Pro and it works fine. I have a Java Runtime plug-in installed that came with Morpheus 2.0.

I tried singing opera on chat, and everyone crashed into each other trying to get out.

I just tried Opera on XP and it worked fine, floating even worked, though docking it again was kinda slow.

Computers suck. We do the best we can.

i normally use Opera (currently on version 7.01), but chat is buggy for me in opera. seems to work ok in window, but when i float it, the chat will shut down if i try to do anything else in opera. oh, and also i will blue screen when shutting down after using the chat with opera. yucky.

however, using MSIE version 5.5 the chat works perfectly... so i'll just do that whenever i wanna use the chat feature.

also should note i'm using windows ME.

I'm using IE 6.0.28 on Windows XP and it works fine, but "floating" the window sometimes crashes the browser.

I know Sun is in the middle of a lawsuit with MS, and so they've pulled all their java support for legal reasons. This why I've had upgrade to XP at work because the support software I use is dependent on Java Virtual Machine, blah blah blah.

But, I have an old cranky MAC at home using a buggy version of IE (5.something) and the chat software works except it doesn't support mac "right click" (which is holding down the single mouse button) so I can't access the special features.

This may not be the final version of the software, but it will probably *be* this software package. I've got some other changes up my sleeves.

Thanks for the troubleshooting. We work to make it better!

After struggling with the Chat thing here for some days, I finally found something that (knock on wood) works, and have discovered some things:

Internet Explorer (I have version 6.0.2600.000) doesn't like that chat software. It will crash the program, lock up the whole machine, work fine for a while (except for the sound effects, which never work), keep working although error message templates are all over the screen like postage stamps (which doesn't do you any good, because although it's working, the text is hidden behind the error message templates) ... it will do all this stuff, something different every time. I tried downloading and installing a couple of versions of Java "plug-ins", but it would never work. I surmise this is because Microsoft IE doesn't really do Java, but emulates it - their own thing is Active X, but this chat expects to see *Java* on your machine.

So I downloaded Netscape 7.0. With the latest Java you can get from SUN (1.4.1), the chat would still not work with Netscape 7.0. However, with the Java that actually *comes* with Netscape 7.0 (1.4.0), the chat works fine so far, sound effects, everything.

My theory may be technically naive or even fucked up, but the short version of the story is if you want the chat to work without errors, Netscape 7.0 with Java 1.4.0 (which is how it comes, right out of the box) will make it do so.
