This is a painting I came across in my usual round of diggings, it's by a painter I quite like, Leon Spilliaert, a Belgian Symbolist. It's called "The Absinthe Drinker" and is from 1907. I haven't seen it in the galleries on this site so here it is...

Unfortunately the only copy I found is black and white. One can still glimpse that all too familiar "hollow gaze" however and wonder what she sees before her eyes...
