Taboo Cove is very cute. On a Tiki lounge related topic (sort of), I just bought a fabulous replica shrunken head on eBay. I even got to pick what hair colour I wanted!

Octopus Ranch is very hip. Right now we're considering TABOO COVE for the tiki bar. What do you think?
By Domingo on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 - 10:24 am: Edit
Marc, I've got my bags packed. When do we leave?
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the grand opening of JUMPIN' JAKES OCTOPUS OASIS..."
Thats got swing and tiki/island tastes.
or you could substitute oasis for ranch...
JUMPIN' JAKES OCTOPUS RANCH
or my personal favorite, just "DOMINGOS"

Is it alright if I go ahead and demand a recount now, or do I need to wait till later?

I'm a big fan of "Bluedog Saloon"
Do I win?

If you're a big God fan, call it the Burning Bush or think of Anatomist1 and call it "The Asbestos Underwear Hideout."

Vino-a-go-go? (Whiskey-a-go-go was already taken!)
or The Lap Kitty Lounge.

Bingo, Tropic - you're right on. The Shim Sham does still exist in New Orleans...it's a faboo glam-punk club.
Also, to Midas (and Marc!) - afraid "Departure Lounge" is already taken. A Brit acquaintance of mine has a pretty well-established band of that name (launched by the irreverent Robyn Hitchcock).
Gotta watch that trademark infringement!
By Tropicofcancer on Wednesday, December 06, 2000 - 08:30 pm: Edit
Isn't the Shim Sham Club a sort of punk rock bar in New Orleans? I seem to remember them even having their own house band, The Shim Shamettes.

yep. the tiki ti, on sunset blvd. just east of the vista theatre. it's in my neck of the woods. can't vouch for those freshly squeezed rumors though, the other ingredients in their drinks obliterated all recollections i might've had regarding anything save the fabulously black-lit decor.
favorite bar names:
the alibi room
the office (honey, i can't talk right now, i'm at the....)

Anyone been to the Tiki Tie (sp?) in L.A.?
Best tiki bar ever. Hands down. Very cozy. According to legend, the owner gets up early in the morning to squeeze all the juices freshly.
If anyone finds themself in Hell A, do yourself a favor and go to this bar. It's on Sunset. In Hollywood, perhaps. Memory fading...

yeah the continental is probably the best place to see live music here in austin. there's another place called the carousel lounge. there used to be a place called the the poodle dog lounge. and on the frankie and and sammy theme, how about "the rat trap"?

IN the same vein as Swinging Chad's, and more topical how about Dimpled Chads? Or Florida Chad's. The joke may well lose its flavour in a month or so, but I like it.

OK, here we go...
The Departure Lounge
The Viva Room
The Roulette Wheel
You realise I'll be up all night thinking of names now. I'm obsessive/compulsive when it comes to naming things. When we started our radio show,I came up with 61 different names. In the end we put all the separate words into a bag, and drew two at random, hence Noxious Muse was named.

By the way, one of my favorite hangouts in Austin is The Continental.
Boozeland is good, very good.

If you haven't already decided on carpeting in your joint I can refer you to someone top notch for any design scemes. Any concept you can imagine can be laid down in carpet. My mother is a sales rep for a custom carpeting mill and she works directly with many designers. She's actually done a couple of the big casino's in Vegas and also here in Ct. Be happy to pass it on if you're interested. And by the way, how bout the Maxim Lounge?

The Electric Banana
(apologies to Marti DiBergi)
The Radar Range
Or, my favorite: Twenty Dwarves Took Turns Doing Handstands on the Carpet (just kidding. talk about a marketing nightmare...)

Cool dadi-o. I sincerely hope the Las Vegas permitting process is easier to navigate than the process here in Austin, Tx, where I work. I pull my hair out daily trying to shepherd projects through the submittal and permit sausage-grinder down at CityHall. So much is being built right now that the review board has a 3 or 4 month backlog. And people are paying rent and notes on space, while their plans sit gathering dust on some poor overloaded saps desk. A friend of mine who is doing a Punk Club here has not heard back from the City since August, about the plans I put together for him, and submitted according to all of the needs and wants of the various review boards. Such is life in the big city. I feel for you if the same holds true in Las Vegas. Good luck, and I hope you don't need it!

The Peppermint Lounge is one of the names I've been considering. I have to find out if it's trademarked or not.
My band played The Peppermint Lounge in the early 80's, after it had become a punk club.
By Tabreaux on Sunday, December 03, 2000 - 07:55 pm: Edit
I honestly don't know if "La Vela" is Spanish or French or if it even means anything in either language. I just remember a small club with that name, out in the country.
BTW, there was a great bar in NY back in the '60s called "The Peppermint Lounge". Cool name.
I think "The Shim Sham Club" is very hip. It's a sassy kind of name for that early '60s vibe.
By Daedelus on Sunday, December 03, 2000 - 07:47 pm: Edit
EasyStreet (seems appropriate)
Who you got doing the design? Anybody us design types might have heard of?
By Marc on Sunday, December 03, 2000 - 07:42 pm: Edit
What does La Vela mean?
There's a famous jazz club in New York called The Blue Note. I really like Martini Ranch for an upscale honky tonk. Shim Sham club is hip.
By Tabreaux on Sunday, December 03, 2000 - 07:22 pm: Edit
Or, you could always name it:
The Naugahyde Lounge
If that isn't '50s-'60s, I don't know what is!
By Tabreaux on Sunday, December 03, 2000 - 07:20 pm: Edit
'50s and '60s theme huh?
The Blue Note
The Baghdad Room
Club La Vela
Kit Kat Club
Johnny's Big Easy
The Tip Top Lounge
The Shim Sham Club

I am opening a retro-Vegas themed nightclub in Las Vegas. This will be an homage to Vegas in the 50's and 60's. The kind of joint Bobby Darin, Keely Smith and Dean Martin might have hungout in. It's going to include a Tiki lounge (ala Trader Vic's). I have a long list of potential names for the nightclub, but I need more. Any suggestions? Keep in mind that The Flamingo, The Stardust and Viva Las Vegas have already been taken.
Name the nightclub and I will fly you and a friend to Las vegas for the opening night party.
