Thanks to Ted I picked up a bottle of this Duval Pastis. I will leave the labeling and color des. up to my pictures. As many of you know Maison Duval made absinthe back in the day so I feel this review was prevelant for the buyers guide etc.
It has a very nice louche, due to the presence of star anise. The taste is sweet, like all pastis and needs no sugar. In the mouth badaine is very prevelant although there are more herbal textures in this than with most pastis. It is very smooth as opposed to the more acrid Pernod Fils Pastis. It would be great for a hot summer day. I enjoy the flavor better than most Spanish absinthe (Mari Mayans, Deva, Lasalla). I find it similar to Segarra but without that odd "woody" bitterness that I taste.
All in all a good pastis, don't go out of your way to get it, but it looks nice on the shelf.
Pics for the guide and your enjoyment.
Kallisti, as always, feel free to take them down if bandwidth is an issue.
