I haven't seen penguins at The Flamingo. I have seen flamingos at The Flamingo.

By Marccampbell on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 - 02:24 am: Edit

I can get an insider rate at the Venetian. 700 square ft. room with two double beds for $69 a night during the week. $159 on weekends (this price may vary from week to week, depending on occupancy). These rooms generally go for as much as twice that. Call the Venetian (702 414 1000) and tell them you want the "go team member" price. Tell them Marc Campbell the general manager of Venus nightclub referred you.

I also have a connection with a modest, but clean, motel called the Rodeway Inn (Tropicana, a block from Las Vegas Blvd.) Its $29 a night for a room with two double beds. It ain't luxurious but it is a bargain.

check out cheapovegas.com
for an amusing and useful guide to hotel bargains on and off the strip.

The Flamingo is running incredibly cheap rates right now directly from their website (http://www.flamingolasvegas.com), like $45-55 for weeknights and $90 for weekends, which is a 4-star room cheaper as most of the middle-range hotels. And they've got PENGUINS!

Just heared from Marc, and indeed, he can't post, so if you need info on the Vegas meet, drop him a line at hippiemc@lvcm.com .

I have been checking expedia.com, prices are going up daily it seems. I'll try priceline and see if I can get a deal, thanx for the info...

Well, I think Our Man in Vegas is having a bit of trouble posting to the forum, and Kallisti isn't aroung to fix it...

I just snagged a really cheap flight (thank you William Shatner and Priceline.com), so I will be arriving Weds the 28th and leaving Mon the 3rd. I haven't booked a room yet, but I'm leaning towards the Barbary Coast.

It seems airfare is back on the rise, is there anything concrete on this gathering? Time is drawing near!

By Zman7 on Friday, October 26, 2001 - 04:07 pm: Edit

Is there any more information on this subject? I hope this is still a go. A group of us from Seattle have booked flights and a hotel.

I've been so stressed about world events and the opening of nightclub VENUS, that I haven't had the time to think about the Vegas Gathering.
I find it difficult thinking about the future. I want to make plans, but I wonder if in two months
an absinthe party will seem completely trivial in light of what may be happening on the planet.
I want to return to normal. I want to go about
my business. On the other hand, I want to get in my Jeep with Jennifer and my dogs, 50 gallons of spring water, 100 pounds of brown rice and head for Montana.

By Tavarua on Wednesday, October 03, 2001 - 08:23 am: Edit

Sorry to keep revisiting the subject, but does anyone plan on being there for longer than Friday and Saturday, ie, thursday through monday? A trip to Vegas sounds great, but for some of us, it is quite a hall and would like to make the most of my visit.

Since nobody really believes I'm me, I don't think my advice will be givem much consideration, but the Rio is a great place to stay, every room is a suite, the prices are great, they have a tequlia bar with just about every type of tequila ever produced, AND an underground very extensive wine cellar, with tasting by the glass! So if you ever yearned for some California Cults like Screaming Eagle or Maya, you don't have to go for the $3500 bottle. They also have a killer selection of vintage ports for tasting. Although, you do have to BYOA.

Bah. Do you know what I went through to be "accepted" on this forum? In my hazing days, there were people on this forum who would literally make me cry. Some still piss me off to no end.

Outwardly, this forum seems like a bunch of assholes - they.. WE are oft times pompous, pretentious, insulting, wordy, DRUNK... Get to know them, and they are exquisite people, endlessly supportive of each other.

And that's that.

By Timba on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 05:40 pm: Edit

The "get drunk and get laid" comment was suppose to be humor.

Duh! The question was...

"why do you want to see what we look like?"

The really obvious answer would be... to put the person's face (not just a doctored picture) with the writing.

You see... back in the olden days it was polite to be introduced to people that you were corresponding with over the phone or with writings. It also usually lead to friendships being formed.

Maybe this forum needs a warning page:
WARNING: You must be flaimed for at least 3 months (or have a case of good homebrew at the next gathering) before we will talk to you like a human being, ALSO no humor or sarcastic comments during this trial period.

flamed and gone....

"Give these people the benefit of the doubt."

I have. But compare "Adjuster"'s writing style to "Kristy"'s. They're too close for comfort. It doesn't help that his(?) post pops up in a thread that has nothing to do with it. Look at the subtopic's title: ANYONE FOR A GOOD FLAMING. That's exacly what a troll wants us to do.

And that's the last I'm going to say about it. Henceforth, I'll ignore the whole thing.

By Adjuster on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 05:10 pm: Edit

Dear Chevalier:
I have read the "Kristy" crap. I assure you that I have a life, and no need to impersonate, aggravate, or in any other form bother the members of this Forum. I know it is a little hard to crack the ice around here, but isn't slightly alarmist to accuse me of being the second coming?
If I am not welcome, i assure you I will leave as quickly as I came.

By Admin on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 - 12:21 pm: Edit

I don't mind street noise, as long as it is not boring. Heh.

But I'd take the Venetian at $59 a night anytime.

Barbary Coast has an hilarious casino, but I don't like playing there much crowded and unfullfilling. Casino Royale is the best ghetto style casino on the strip, cheap tables and the slots have been nice to me.

I think the Frontier is real seedy in a good way, they are at the far end of the strip. Circus Circus has too many children. It can be horrendous there.

I LIKE street noise. It's one of the reasons I miss New York, and live across the street from a bar.

My main concern is that the Barbary has a rep for cutting off people who are winning at blackjack rather quickly. But, hey, there are plenty of casinos, and if I do well enough, I'll probably get a comp room elsewhere.

Does anybody know if the chaos in NYC has made it any easier to get tickets for The Producers? I, for one, want to pump some money into the economy of my favorite town right now. Vegas will get my cash soon enough.

By Tavarua on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 - 08:01 am: Edit

I have heard from several people that some airline is offering flights to Las Vegas for $1 up and $80 back with no catch. I can only imagine that this is the case because of the lack of business that they are doing right now. However, I have been unable to find this deal. Has anyone else heard of this or is just another hoax?

By Marc on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 - 03:17 am: Edit

Barbary Coast is nice, but its only a couple of stories tall so your room is exposed to alot of street noise.

Right now the 700 sq.ft. suites in The Venetian are going for $59 a night! They're usually between
$200-300.

I also refuse to call DCA "Reagan National Airport." as far as I'm concerned it's either "National" or "DCA."

Don't get too excited about America West...the local news reported the other night that they might not make it out of this huge downturn unless they can get an appropriate infusion of government cash. I only hope my tickets to Columbus that I bought in late August are still good when I have to fly in November!

Leela

By _Blackjack on Monday, September 24, 2001 - 08:33 pm: Edit

I'm just reluctant to reserve anything until I know if they're going to re-open National Airport (which is 2 miles from here). I'd hate to have to slog all the way out to Dulles or BWI if I didn't have to. And America West goes nonstop to Vegas from National, but their flights from BWI connect at Dallas.

Safety be damned! I want convenience. (That, incidentally, has been the battle-cry of congressmen for years, who refused to admit that having an airport within spitting distance of the Pentagon--and in the middle of a city--was a bad idea, simply because THEY didn't want to have to slog all the way to Dulles or BWI.)

And I won't call it "Reagan National Airport." If he wants an airport, he can have one in California. He hated this city.

You don't want to go to the Stardust. It is 100% completely BORING. I was there last summer for a ballroom dance competition. Nothing thrilling about the hotel. It's not good, it's not bad, it's not tacky, it's just there. Very 'Wonder Bread' if you ask me.

Now, I've never been to the Barbary Coast, but that sounds pretty cool to me!

Is the Sahara still there? Or did they tear it down? And what about Circus Circus? My parents stayed there in 1963 for their honeymoon....

By Morriganlefey on Monday, September 24, 2001 - 05:11 pm: Edit

Hot dawg you're right - cheapolasvegas IS a great site. Seeing as how we'll mostly be getting slosho at Marc's place at the Venetian, my vote would be the Stardust, Flamingo or Casino Royale for location's sake. And I'm kinda partial to the old-styleeee Sahara, too.

Let's start getting a count of who's going and how many rooms we'll need, and then see if we can get a group discount!! Chime in - it's never too early to start.

Heh. Back in the rough 'n' tumble days, San Francisco was called "the Barbary Coast" after it's bad, bad reputation for fightin', drinkin', gamblin', and whorin' ....

Something like 70% ir 80% of all homicides were committed by women in San Francisco in the 1850's thru 1880's, where they learned to shoot in order to defend themselves. This number is culled from memory tho, so it could be up for debate.

Really cool old-style vegas hotels (kinda in descending order by price):

Bally's
Flamingo (cheap rates for midweek, woo!)
Sahara
Stardust
Frontier (like the casino, old ladies smokin' too much)
Barbary Coast (scary! in a good way kinda! Shrimp cocktail at the bar!)
The Orleans
Casino Royale (Oh man, these guys actually have accomodations. best place for cheap cocktails)

Yahoo Vegas Hotels

i definitely need to be around other people at a time like this... for reasons other than the chaotic state of international affairs... on which i haven't spoken out or gotten involved in the debating threads simply because there are more important things for me to focus on... namely love: for oneself and for others... and trying to rebuild my life.

as for getting drunk... well, i spent friday and saturday nights blitzed out of my mind... passed out with a beer in my hand and a smile on my face.

connecting with friends, setting aside our differences, and reinforcing our community is certainly called for, and despite my personal turmoil, i do indeed plan on attending the Vegas Gathering!

By Leela on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 - 09:14 am: Edit

Any kind of gathering of friends at a time like this is a good idea -- some people need to be around other people rather than holed up in their houses afraid to do anything.

It's all a matter of focus...it would be one thing to be all high school about it and be callous and talk about a party in terms of getting wasted or having it be the most important thing in one's life. But it's another to look forward to getting together with people -- especially people whom you've only met online -- and forging personal bonds over a shared interest.

I for one would still like to plan on attending the Vegas gathering. However, my illustrious employer just announced last night that they are going to layoff myself and about 30,000 of my closest friends. Maybe a trip to Vegas is just what I need. Any more info available as to where it is to be held? Myself and a couple of other Seattleites will book as soon as that info is known.

By Marc on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 - 04:11 am: Edit

Brothers and sisters of the forum, let's stay upbeat. There has never been a better time to show our solidarity and love for each other.
Let's send a little bit of positive magic into the air and gather together in Las Vegas as planned. Considering the volatile and unpredictable nature of what is going on in the world, it is difficult to plan ahead. It is also
a time in which we question our values, materially and spiritually. Is this an appropriate time to be discussing a party? At this moment, probably not. But, in the coming weeks, hopefully things will change. If not, maybe the next step is to change our minds, in the mystical sense. In other words, getting high may be our small contribution to making the world a little hipper, gentler and groovy. Maybe the best thing we can do is get drunk.

By _Blackjack on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 09:09 am: Edit

Hello Emiliano - and say “hey” to the real Melinelly (your wife)

Yes, it's good to be back on the chain-gang (I mean forum).

Been gone too long, but I’ve got a good reason. Been enjoying the lovely offerings of the this great state of Mich. Been fine beaches… lake Michigan has been bliss – and of course, the golf links have been green, green, green. Although I don’t hit many greens – I still enjoy the colour (“u” for my British brothers).

peace.

Marc, I didn't see your post till now. I'd love to hang with you all but (1) I hate Vegas, last time I was there ('83) I got fucked over en route by Western Airlines and ended up a federal criminal...(2) I'm busy getting production up, and shedding $$$ like a duck sheds water, $1500 or so for a trip from Bkk would be a $1500 piece of essential equipment or supplies that would have to be delayed...anyone want to poll the forum as to how many people want to delay Jade any MORE?

All in all, my friend, if anyone's gonna rep JL/BEL in Vegas this time it'd have to be the Breauxster. Ask Ted. I will be there in spirit though...

By Melinelly on Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 10:28 pm: Edit

patrick! good to see you out and about =) heh everyone's coming out of the woodwork for this one, yay! hope all's well with you over in Headland (aka michigan).

Vegas? Did someone say Vegas? I've been gone for awhile but count me in. I love to travel and drink, or drink and travel, or drink and babble...

(love the Peppermill also!)

Vera - from what I know of it thus far, New Orleans has Vegas beat hands down in the Sin Catagory (well, most of 'em). NOLA's seen sins that Vegas hasn't even thought of yet.

A.C.’s club scene is pretty beat, unless your talking about strip clubs. And they do have a few twenty-four open bars. Now that I think about it, A.C. isn’t such a bad idea.

By Verawench on Tuesday, August 21, 2001 - 11:37 am: Edit

If Disney's taking over Las Vegas, perhaps it's time for Marc to establish a new City of Sin. Otherwise, where are we deviants to go? Atlantic City? Pfft.

I'd hit the strip feeling like a tight pants and turtleneck Elvis looking for a swimming instructor in a torpedo bra and sweater.

Wow - my head swims with visions of THIS!! Good golly, Royale, I'm sooooooo glad you're back among us!!

Can't wait to see you & Paige in Vegas, baby.

Royale,

The Plaza is also home to Pete Barbuti and his Naked Angels Revue. Barbuti used to be a regular on Johnny Carson's show in the 60s. He's a faux-beatnik-cum-swinger with a Beatle haircut and a goattee. My kind of guy.

Unfortunately, they slapped a dome over Freemont St. and turned it into a fucking mall. No longer does the neon of Glitter Gulch radiate into the infinite desert night. The juxtaposition of artifice and the natural world has been ruptured by more artifice. Its a shame. The beauty of Vegas is in its extreme contrast to the so-called real world. But, there's always the Peppermill Lounge, with its bubbling lava pit and Superfly vibe.

By Royale on Sunday, August 19, 2001 - 04:52 am: Edit

Marc, look into Jackie Gaughan's Plaza. It stares right down the middle of the downtown strip, is cheap as nails and serves a pretty mean banana split 24 hours a day. I lived there for a while and had cut a deal with them at something like $25 a night (a little more over the weekends) The 70s brown dˇcor and waking up to the glow of the Glitter Gulch as the sun was going down was inspiring. I'd hit the strip feeling like a tight pants and turtleneck Elvis looking for a swimming instructor in a torpedo bra and sweater.

Hello?

Is this thing on ???

By Melinelly on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 10:29 pm: Edit

we are not at liberty to divulge that information at this current time...

...but your concerns have been duly noted ;)

By Anatomist1 on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 07:49 pm: Edit

Would the good stuff happen on friday night or saturday night? I might be able to combine it with a certification test I need to take on Saturday morning, which would require being a teetotaling bore on friday.

lucky we didn't stick to our first idea datewise... fell the weekend before COMDEX... icky dot-commie rates =P hehe

By _Blackjack on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 12:18 pm: Edit

Of course we're scheduling this thing a week BEFORE the prices for everything drop for the pre-Christmas slum. Apparently the first week in December is the Rodeo Nationals or somesuch, so prices are a bit higher.

On the other hand, I found a place where I can rent a '59 Caddie...

By Marc on Wednesday, August 15, 2001 - 02:17 am: Edit

Don,

its time for you to put the business aside for a few days and come to the States, Vegas, and hang with your friends. I mean it, man.

By Marc on Wednesday, August 15, 2001 - 12:06 am: Edit

I'm not a fan of the new Disney-style Vegas hotels.I prefer old-school places like Bally's and The Golden Nugget. Bally's is right in the heart of the strip, the rooms are large and should be around $70 a night in December. I'll look into it.

I'm also checking out a few intimate nightspots to have a tasting, other than my own. Venus is pretty big, but I could create a somewhat private area for my absinthe posse.

By Verawench on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 05:21 pm: Edit

See, now I'm tempted.

I'll see about the finances... I don't travel without buckets of spending dough. I may want to buy one of those waitresses Marc mentioned.

Actually, I'd love to go.

By Head_Prosthesis on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 05:01 pm: Edit

The fact of the matter is this...
Prior to seeing this thread yesterday, I spent an hour on the phone with my friend/ex-boss/travel agent looking into flights to Vegas. I figured I'd surprise Marc the weekend of Dec. the first and what do you know...

Vegas gathering!

I'm going to have to ask though that no photos be taken of me and to limit questions and autographs to one per person. As the evening wears on and drinks accumulate I may raise the bar on questions and autographs (still no photos). At some point later I will converse rather freely while wearing a paper bag. Much later you'll all be telling me "SHUT UP HEAD!!!" as you cling to your cameras I'll be grabbing for. Afterward Marc will be coaxing me down from the large plexiglass white lion at Mirage so the cops don't shoot me down with tranquilizer guns after which I'll be getting my picture taken by force at the hands of the LVPD.

JADE or no Jade!

By Verawench on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 03:59 pm: Edit

Don't you get it? I'm scared of Marc. I've been having nightmares of being assaulted by bearded babies.

Head, are you going?

By Admin on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 01:26 pm: Edit

Oh, and my vote is always for Treasure Island.

Aaaarrrrrgh! Bugger me timbers, matey!

But I believe it is at Marc's discretion.

By Admin on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 12:59 pm: Edit

I think part of the plan if possible is to come up with a hotel, if we have enough people, we can possibly book group rates. Marc is looking into it. Information will be forthcoming, ya know, eventually.

I'm excited, to go to vegas, to see ya'll again. To see new people. Weeee!

By Melinelly on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 12:21 pm: Edit

what? no vera? come on, i'm sure there are enough texans interested, you can hitch a caravan on over ;)

By Tavarua on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 10:14 am: Edit

Mark,

Do you have any recommendations for lodging, without losing my ass at the Blackjack Table. I would rather ask a semi-local than consulting a tourist booklet.

By Zman7 on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 10:08 am: Edit

Sounds like fun. It would be great to finally be able to put faces to all the names I see in the Forum. Checking Travelocity.com..............

By _Blackjack on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 09:11 am: Edit

December, you say? Hmmm... They're going to make me take some vacation before the end of the year, and I'm too paranoid to take it before then, so this might be the very thing.

Gives me time to get my blackjack skills back into peak form, too...

By Leela on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 09:04 am: Edit

Marc, that sounds wonderful. I love to languish. I'll have to get started making some fabulous dresses suitable for such languishing.

By Marc on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 - 02:47 am: Edit

I have a shitload of several varieties of Swiss
fairy juice we can groove on, man. I got waitresses in leopard jumpsuits with a post-modern Barbarella twist. I can offer you a velvet loveseat or sofa to languish on. I got Dean Martin, Daft Punk and Serge Gainsbourg on the stereo. Betty Page on the video monitors. And a tiki bar. Make your move forumites. Sin City
awaits.

Wooo!!!!! Excitement!

Can I handle going to Vegas twice in the same month? (I might be going back Dec 15th for a ballroom dance competition to be held at the Luxor).

SURE, WHY NOT?

Vegas Baby!

P.S. Thanks for taking on organizing this.

yes, we felt it was time for another Sepulchritude gathering... heck, we felt that moments after walking away from Pirate's Alley!

after throwing around the idea of a gathering with kallisti and morrigan, we came to the conclusion that there would be no better place at this time than Las Vegas (ok, maybe not, but we wanted an excuse to go to Vegas and now we're giving y'all one as well dammit!). Jade will hopefully be out. Marc's new club will be up and running. And who doesn't want to go to Vegas?

when? the weekend of...

DECEMBER 1st

mark your calenders. call your friends. put in for vacation. call in sick. do what you need to do.

where?

well... um... Vegas =P

i'll pull a Ted on ya and say that at this time I am not able to disclose that information. but i can say for sure that this is going to happen! we have a few options of exactly where, and the details only need to be narrowed down and hammered out. might be Venus. might be Marc's house. might be a club on or off the strip. might be a cave in the desert...

other details are still forming as well. drinks will be aplenty. if we don't have the actual event at Venus, there will be another night set aside for getting together there as well for "normal" drinks and festivities (well, talking at least... maybe =P)

just wanted to inform you all of the date so you can start planning! go! do it now!

will bump this thread and update as more details arise.

in the meantime, please feel free to contact myself or Marc with any suggestions and questions you have:

me: emiliano@usermail.com

marc: hippiemc@lvcm.com

cheers!
