All right you son of a bitch, were coming for you, and anyone else who slanders the name of Firesign. One of these days, your going to turn around and see this behind you.
By Louched_Liver on Saturday, March 02, 2002 - 12:14 pm: Edit
Aw Siccy, why'd ya have to get him started on this again?
You have to learn to act like there is something real interesting going on out the window. Then, when he's done, you turn your head a bit and say:
"I'm sorry, I was watching that moss dry over there. Did you say something?"
Aww Rikky Tikky, ya know I love ya! That's why I tease.
By Tavarua on Saturday, March 02, 2002 - 11:14 am: Edit
Well then, here we go.
The Firesign Theatre is an audio comedy group. They did Live! radio back in the Sixties and Seventies, made twenty-two albums - as a group or in various combinations of the members - between 1967 and 1985. In 1993 Sony/Columbia Records released Shoes For Industry, a "Best Of" double-CD package of their work. Their NEW album, Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death, (Rhino) was released September of 1998. A delightful album reminiscent of their early work.

By Tavarua on Saturday, March 02, 2002 - 08:38 am: Edit
Let me shed my redundant wisdom on the crowd once again. If you like the Onion, you would probably find a place in your heart for Firesign Theatre.
Pants, back me up on this one.

Good point Morrigan,
Okay then I'll rephrase my statement in a more politicaly correct manner.
How can you be a homosexual if you haven't got any genitals?

How can you be a homosexual if you haven't got a cock?
By Mr_Rabid on Friday, March 01, 2002 - 02:05 pm: Edit
My political feelings are summed up by this: If people in general weren't such a bunch of asses, there would be no need of political systems.
All they do is try to put a muzzle on this collection of vicous hairless apes. The rest is window dressing.
But I like to toss opinions out there, as I find the different systems to be interesting logic puzzles.
But, all in all, I gotta say- speculating on the possible homosexuality of smurfs is probably a better way to spend your time.

Did you enjoy it? (being a sex slave) Vera has visited to spar with Don a bit, but doesn't seem to talk much to those she doesn't loathe...

Or what The Rock had for dinner last night.. phew..
Hiya Baz. I've been reading daily.. it must be the darn politics.
Really though, I just escaped. I was kidnapped and kept as a sex slave, in the Harlem basement dungeon of Bill Clinton. Head and Vera are still there. Head looks funny in that wig.

If you are focused on the Rock's buns, then you most definitely do NOT want to "smell what the Rock is cooking"!

I do apologize for my crapulousity. I have a compulsive inability to keep my mouth shut when people are being wrong in my presence. It's a nasty habit and one I'm trying to remedy.
I am NOT going to get started on the Libertarian thing. Really.
By Morriganlefey on Friday, March 01, 2002 - 09:49 am: Edit
I personally could care less about the Rock or his posterior, I'm just really glad Cheri was able to interject one of my fave words - "crapulous"!!

the rock and tea? Sounds like you are talking about drugs again...
By Cheri on Friday, March 01, 2002 - 09:33 am: Edit
Aye.. the rock, tea and the appropriate absinthe for such a "feast"..
Now what brand goes best with The Rock's delicious caramel buns? I would say Segarra so far for me..
By Auntieminda on Friday, March 01, 2002 - 08:55 am: Edit
Cheri,
I agree.
Tasty...the Rock and tea. Everyone for the Rock and tea say "Aye".
Smiles,

Personally, the entire subject of Politics totally bores me. It's all just... crapulous. I personally would rather discuss The Rock's delicious caramel buns.

I'm more and more sympathizing with the anti-glob movement.
Maybe that's only because every morning I wake up to the political indoctrination of our local free radio station ;-)

To me, that's one of the main allures not just of this board, but of absinthe in general. We are a diverse lot, in age, geographic location, ideologies, and so on, and even though we may bicker from time to time, we are brought together by our love of thismuch-maligned beverage...
By Drbeer on Friday, March 01, 2002 - 02:50 am: Edit
I'm not sure what I would be classified as. Some of my views are totally right wing, but at the same time I've got some very idealistic left wing feelings as well. Throw into the mix that I believe 90% of the population isn't either smart enough or educated enough (or both) to govern themselves and I don't think there exists a classification for me. At least, not one that I am aware of.
Actually, I think elitist is a good word for me. At the same time however I believe in true equality.
Unfortunately the only way to have true equality in any form, without one person have any sort of power over another, is in pure anarchy. Even democracies are merely dictatorships of the center (or whatever group has a person in power) over the left and right.

Yeah. We are a weird group. My political leaning could only be described as compassionate facisim. Im a liberal conservative or a conservative liberal depending on what im drinking and how much taxes im paying at the time.
By Robman on Thursday, February 28, 2002 - 11:51 pm: Edit
I've been reading through the threads on this board (and contributed to a few) and I must say that the Green Fairy attracts an amazingly diverse group of people! While there appears to be a generous serving serving of the counter-culture sect (consistent with the reputation of this spirit from the turn-of-century era), there seems to be quite a few libertarian/psuedo-conservative voices here as well.
I count myself firmly among the libertarian political voices, juggling the pros and cons of the two dominant political parties in the US. My thought is that the far right and far left meet at the other end of the circle, meeting at the paternalistic point of governing where the state has determined that it knows best what the population should and should not be doing (a point at which the acceptance of our beloved elixer has nary a chance).
I believe that most people here, whatever their chosen social stance, believe in a libertarian school of thought of total freedom of decision but with total responsibility of the consequences of his or her deicisions.
Thoughts? Am I off base or on to something here?
