We need the classic MC posts archived for eternity here, especially his "All the girls I've f...d before" series.

Here's the story of when Marc and Mrs Campbell met:

QUOTE
By Marc on Thursday, October 19, 2000

Okay. I agree. Sharing a drink with someone has led to other things. So has sharing a joint, a
walk down the street, an argument and a blunt comeon.

10 years ago a woman was nursing a drink in my bar
(The Rodeo Bar, 27th & 3rd,NYC) and it was closing time. She was strikingly beautiful. Long dirty blonde hair and sea-green eyes. Not the kind of woman you'd expect to see alone in a bar.
As I was locking the doors, she got up to leave.
"Don't leave, come home with me" I said. "Why" she replied. My answer was simple and direct:
"Because I will eat your pussy like it's never been eaten before". Her response was succint:
"Okay".

Jennifer and I have been living together ever since.

Our disinhibitor was not absinthe. In my case, it was Jack Daniel's. In Jennifer's, it was a bad divorce from an investor banker and a desire to take a walk on the wild side. She's been slumming ever since.

And this also helps sum up the MC we all knew and loved:

QUOTE
Thankyou for the sample of La Bleue you sent me.
It's quite lovely. I'm sipping it now. I feel
transported to some Alpine grove where young women dance naked and I, dressed as a goat, wave my massive member in their stunned faces.

That, and using the phrase "meat curtains" a lot.

Just found the legendary Marc Campbell thread:

Thirty years ago, I found that pickup line to be almost as effective as " I can sing just like Ian Anderson".

I think I would have enjoyed MC.

Wasn't he here on the new forum for a short while? I miss his stories.

QUOTE
I loved Christine because I love death. I love oblivion. I love the quietude of a world receding into nothingness. I did not love Christine's pussy.
It smelled like shit.

I'm in tears. It's like Penthouse Forum meets Mad Magazine.

On the one hand, if you take his writing seriously, it sounds as if Henry Miller one day just said "fuck it, I give up". On the other hand, it is funny. MC always seems like one of those people you'd really regret not meeting. I think he still writes on the NYTimes film page sometimes as hippymc.

IMO this is the best thread he ever started: http://www.feeverte.net/archive/messages/16/469.html

It is the best thread because it just seems like a bunch of absinthe drinkers having a genuine conversation.

That was back when I was in lurk mode, but that was one of the threads that motivated me to join, as it was clear many people on here were really PASSIONATE about their film and music. I find myself really wanting to add posts to that dead thread more than any other live thread here these days.

A real gem in there is when Artemis said Goonies was better than Citizen Kane.

So in the spirit of MC, here's my 10 movies you should see this year:
1. LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE
2. THE DEPARTED
3. SCIENCE OF SLEEP
4. THE PRESTIGE
5. THE PROPOSITION
6. WHEN THE LEVEE BROKE
7. LITTLE CHILDREN
8. BABEL
9. THE FOUNTAIN
10. RUNNING WITH SCISSORS

And while MC said ALMOST FAMOUS was the greatest rock & roll movie ever made, while he was right then, SCHOOL OF ROCK has since then earned that title in my book.

And since I'm adding to dead conversation,

QUOTE

, MC mentioned that one as "his" bar. In 1990, that definitely would have been his bar. If you went there now though, at 4am you'd see him running out the back door, smelling like gasoline, and then you'd see the place go up in flames. I hate that bar, full of phoneys and white hat wearing douchebags who live in Jersey and are looking to score. All things come to an end, I suppose.

Wow, I didn't even remember I had that other name.

Posted by: justabob Oct 29 2006, 11:43 PM

I was registered under my real name on the old fourm. A practice I have since stopped.

There's a Pataphysician in that last thread linked. Did you also have a puppet in there at the same time? Or were you joking, trying to pass yourself off as Marc?

Posted by: Pataphysician Oct 30 2006, 04:54 AM

There is?! No, I never had more than one name at a time.

Yes, a masterpiece. The Rolf Harris reference cracks me up every time.

Oxy, are you just pouring over this old stuff manually?, I wonder if there is some sort of software tool that could download the whole mess and transfer it a searchable database? I tried to find my first posts with no luck.
