First: What's with the "extraits" all the time. But ok... I'll leave that.
Second: "Tradition" of extraits pre-1800?

Define that, please. I'm just curious to what you mean by it.

I thought this post was for newly rated absinthes, reviews waiting for approval, etc. So here I go, my first FV review for a Dutch absinthe that deserves it:

AKVELD'S ARTISANALE ABSINTHE BLANCHE

Editor's note: The full review of Akveld's Artisanale Absinthe Blanche is moved into its own review thread here and into the Buyer's Guide here.

Seems all someone had to do was ask. I wonder who else is here that has never come out because no one asked.

And it's heartening to read a review that the new Akveld tastes as good as the old Helfrich.

Reviewed by absinthist 10/11/2010

COLOR BEFORE WATER 10/10
Absinthe pours a velvety light golden cognac with very tiny greenish reflections. The closest would be Clandestine verte Suisse. Perfect.

LOUCHE ACTION 10/10
Swirling, subtle louche. At 1:1, there is still an unlouched layer

COLOR AFTER WATER 10/10
Creamy and opaque

AROMA 28/30
Smells woody and camphorous, quite similar to Edouard from 1910. Alcohol is perceptible in the nose. The scent is very homogenous, but still a tad young.

MOUTH-FEEL 8/10
Bitter and very camphorous. Too camphorus at the edges, not heavy from anethole

TASTE 18/20
Camphor, slight melissa, the finish is penetrating, the spiciness very, very subtle. It does not taste pre-ban, but tastes like a well rested absinthe

OVERALL IMPRESSION 8/10
A great product for the connoisseurs, but the camphorous note gets too prominent causing inbalance

absinthist scores L'Ancienne 92 out of 100
