What, exactly, do you macerate your home in?

People distill at home? How is this even possible.

Check it out at snopes, it's just an urban legend.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Wouldn't such a Finnishing step normally introduce some color?

Purple, but not that foppish.
One day my friend Bill and I proceeded from Rainier, Oregon to Seattle, to drink beer at Pike Place, and wherever else caught our attention along the way (we dutifully stopped at Olympia Brewery, eschewed the tour, and proceeded directly to the free beer salon). We found ourselves in a town the name of which I don't recall, but it was either the same town that had, at the city limit, the statue of a werewolf carved from a redwood, or a nearby town. We saw these people painting a house purple. "See what happens when you steal paint in the dark", said Bill. I learned later that beer tour day had also been the celebration day of a saint who drove the grasshoppers out of Finland. His color is purple. There are apparently a lot of ex-Finns in Werewolfville, where it also rains every day.

A beautiful distillation of disparate posts into a cogent anecdote.

Tasty.

Donkey shame.
I encountered Bill at four different jobs in four different states over the years. He didn't say much, but when he did he made it count. At that same Oregon job, there was a meeting one day to set up a picnic, ostensibly to reward him, me, and the other contractor hired guns. A discussion ensued about volunteers to help make the party everything it could be for the families of the inhouse bigshots who were also to be invited - volunteer bozos at a pony ride or the like. This transparent attempt to asskiss the client into rewarding our employer with more contracts was met with looks of shock and disgust around the table.
"FUCK THAT!" shouted Bill. "Instead just put up the cash you're planning to waste on that crap at the Anchor Inn, and let's all get hammered!"

That was before I discovered distillation.

He did come over on one occasion to help me bottle a batch of raspberry ale, but we both got hammered first and spilled it all; had to rent a machine to suck that stuff out of the carpet. It was hand-squozen Michigan berries right off the farm, too. Probably briars are growing out of that carpet now.
