> Père Kermann's and Bohem, query about two brands

Père Kermann's Absinthe (France) and Bohem Absinth (Czech Republic), these two are the only brands of absinth I think I can get in Norway legally. I'm a total beginner, are these REAL absinths or just sort of diluted versions that are legal because they are less than the real thing?

I hope someone here can help me. This forum is wonderful.

Go read the FAQ it explains everything.

And no, they are not "real" absinthe, go here (www.absintheonline.com) if you want to buy "real" absinthe.

Ohh and good luck surviving the first wave of forum members- you'll need it.

Welcome.

As you could've read on the Absinthe Buyers Guide on this very site, both Pere Kerman and Bohem are disgusting, don't even try them.

I don't know what you mean with 'the real thing'. If you mean taste and quality then yes, they are less than the real thing. If you are talking about the chop.gif levels and will they make you trip, then no, because Absinthe doesn't make one 'trip' or hallucinate.

But anyway, If you can get those legally in Norway it should be legal to get other Absinthes too. Just stay away from the czechs and take some time to read through some things here, such as the absinthe buyers guide, the faq etc.

As far as I know, absinthe was never banned in Norway, so any brand would be legal. It does however sound very probable that only a few, crappy brands are available in stores, and those you mention surely do belong to the crappy category.

You'll probably need to order online. I don't know norwegian law, but chances are that the tax authorities aren't too happy about ordering booze from other countries. In Denmark they aren't. But they also don't have the ressources to check it, and I have ordered quite a lot of packages that obviously contained bottles without ever having any problems.

Depending on where in Norway you live, you could go to Sweden, and get at lease "half decent" oil mixes. Oxygénée and Pernod 68 is available on "special order" in Swedish Systembolaget.

Other than that, there's nothing all that good.

Order online. And welcome, fellow scandinavian.

Good luck!

Here in the places where it remains illegal, we forget that legality doesn't mean much if you still can't buy the good stuff anywhere.

Perhaps a local liquor store will special-order something for you upon request.

Now, do your homework (FAQ and Buyer's Guide) before asking any more already-answered questions.

. . . and don't forget to read the FAQ and check out the Absinthe Buyer's Guide for brand reviews and distributor links!
