Hello all! Just wanted to introduce myself as an unititiated absinthe drinker. I had been wanting to try it for some time, but have never bothered to pursue beyond that.... until recently. I typed the word into the search engines and all kinds of sites popped up. Not knowing what I was really looking for, or should be looking for, I stumbled upon a few of the absinthe sellers that boasted great rating in Maxim's August article on absinthe. Then I went and ordered a bottle from Czech Strong (again not knowing anything at all).

After the order was placed, I stumbled on this site and read all the Faq's and reccomendations I could. I promptly turned around, cancelled my Czech order and ordered a bottle of the Emile 68 (got the best ratings around here) box set (so my wife and I can share in a little Thanksgiving cheer) from Liqueurs de France (also got great ratings as a reliable source for deliveries).

Also, this site and forums helped to dispell some of the myths I've had about absinthe. What I am looking for is a smooth drink with a nice buzz (as all drinks have a slightly different buzz), and I think the Emile will take care of both nicely. I wasn't looking for the green fairy, although if I see her I won't complain.

So thanks to you all for taking the time to post great info.

A newbies first post, and not a single mention of chop.gif . Looks like we're finally attracting an intelligent crowd.

Now who the hell let me in here?

You should enjoy the Emile products - they're some of the better commercial products available. My personal favorite is the Sapin, but that may change since they'll soon be offering three new absinthes.

It might be worth your time to check out Segarra and Francois Guy, or some of the fine HG's floating around.

Nope, not so interested in the chop.gif .

Absinthe is a drink that history is riddled with, and for all the art history and humanities classes I chugged down in my years at art school, I have been interested in trying absinthe. In terms of taste, I'd like an absinthe light in anise flavor, perhaps one with a hint of floral/herbal palate. Perhaps one that is brewed similarly to the way it was made in the belle epoque. Will the UE suffice, or are there others that might interest me?

Welcome!!

Anyone who is new to the joys and perils of the world of absinthe and cancels his first Czech order, is a rare individual and worthy of praise!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure within weeks you'll be blazing a trail for the rest of us to follow.

It's amazing how much has changed in just two years, when at the top of the commercial heap were Segarra, NS, Deva, (and La Fee, if you could get some).
