This is a Spanish absinthe, apparently from an extinct distillery, or at least the absinthe is extinct. I got the sample from a forum member who got it from a forum member.

AVERAGE SCORE 78

COLOR BEFORE WATER 7/10
Very pale green. Surprising that there is no "feuille morte" going on, but it's very lightly colored, although obviously naturally colored.

LOUCHE ACTION 8/10
Strange louche. No real clouding - the oils swirl around in the glass until the whole is almost opaque. Not as entertaining as some, but can't fault it either.

COLOR AFTER WATER 7/10
Light milky green. Can't fault it considering the original color.

AROMA 27/30
Absolutely fine, both raw and after louche. Complex and floral raw, blooms into much more of the same after watering. This is no anise bomb. It's good absinthe. From Spain? Go figure! Has that "antique" nuance (aged hyssop?) going for it, which puts it above almost any recent product.

MOUTH-FEEL 6/10
Thin, but silky thin.

TASTE 15/20
It doesn't get much better for a "vintage" absinthe that's not Pernod.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 8/10
Old absinthe is the best absinthe.

NOTE: This is far and way the best absinthe I've had out of Spain with the possible exception of Pernod Tarragona. Apparently, when it comes to the Spaniards, they don't make it like they used to.

Artemis scores Absenta Augustin Bofil 78 out of 100
