According to http://www.absinthe.se :

"Yet another absinthe pop out of Switzerland… Unfortunately not all are good. This one is not. … this bottle (came from) Andy at Absint24.net."

Average Score 61

Reviewed by Artemis 11/7/05

COLOR BEFORE WATER 5/10
It's a blanche, it's clear. I've been told it's not a blanche, but I didn't notice any color - for this reason, I'm forced to downgrade the score from 10 to 5 pending further review

LOUCHE ACTION 8/10
As expected. Lots of oils.

COLOR AFTER WATER 9/10
Nice milky white.

AROMA 20/30
Pleasant, classic La Bleue scent.

MOUTH-FEEL 7/10
Good enough.

TASTE 8/20
Weak, insipid, not as good as the scent promises. Not offensive, not inticing either.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 4/10
I can't give a "5" to anything of which I wouldn't want a second glass, and I couldn't even finish the first one of this - I poured it out.

Artemis scores Z'Graggen Absinth 61 out of 100

Wow, 66 seems generous. I know it is a scoring thing. Maybe too many points can be gained on other stuff. Nothing wrong the your review… just how the points add up. To me the last statment speaks volumes over anything else there.

The main reason why this absinthe got such a high score is that it's a blanche and the first three categories benefit a blanche.

Yes, that stresses me a little as well. I was thinking, this score is pretty high for something I can't drink. But as pointed out by Sea of Lament, a blanche gets 10 for color, and if it louches nicely and looks nice after louche, that's almost 30 points right there. In the case of this product it also won points for smelling pretty good and having decent mouthfeel. Absinthe can have all these things, unfortunately, and still not taste very good. I should point out that I didn't pour it out for tasting BAD, but if it doesn't taste really GOOD, I'm probably not going to finish it no matter what else it has going for it. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I'm used to well, much better.

Actually, if your sample had been bigger you'd notice that the blanche wasn't that "blanche". It IS a blanche, but it's awfully green for being a blanche… Or, it was a blanche which they foolishly colored with…. Yup - El Wormwoodo Grande.

Damn, Hartsmar beat me to it. I saw a bottle being sold on ebay back in July for 20eur but it didn't feel right.

It looks green, I don't know if you confused your scores again Artemis. I guess that recent fake b-day is making you stumble now harhar.gif

Probably it's the chop.gif.

Take a clue, you manufacturers - either use HYSSOP to color it, or leave it clear.

Grate, now you're delusional- as if absinth manufacturers would listen to what we say.

I briefly checked the forum over at absinth-guide.de and they also speak of a weak green color.

Distilled
45% (90 proof)

Absinth24.net used to sell it, now they don't. Neither do Alandia or any of the other ones that one might suspect would carry it.

I'm rather inexperienced with absinthe consumption. However, it seems weird that aroma gets more weight than taste does in this point scale. Granted 'they' say that smell is a major factor in how something tastes. I personally think aroma and taste should recieve the same weight, if not taste being a slightly larger chunk of the overall.

Frylock. I know there's a lot of posts here, but this thread does explain it all. There have been many ideas and questions raised about the score-sheet and they're all answered here: http://www.feeverte.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2174

I think looking through that thread will make you see why aroma weighs as high as it does.
