You need to start a vintage bottle collecting forum or something.

Maybe it's time. And isn't this forum dynamically created? It's rooted in a database? I doubt anyone is hard coding every single page. Is it a simple flat text database? If so, we could make it work with some old-school cgi…. of course, I'd prefer an Access DB for simplicity.

Um, HELLO! The forum is NOT the entirety of feeverte.net. And yeah, "anyone" is me hard coding every single page.

Have you ever bothered to check out the rest of the site in that nifty nav bar up top? LARS!.gif The forum is only one selection of many.

http://www.feeverte.net/guide/ <- this is The Absinthe Buyer's Guide. The section in the forum is a holding pen for new reviews etc until I hard code them old fashioned style onto the web page.

Again, why a vintage bottle forum? Is there some inside joke there somewhere?

The reviews are the only thing you reformat. The forum itself is sitting in a MySQL database. You do not hard code every single page of this forum. Its dynamic. Forget it. I was making a suggestion that might make this site a bit better. Instead of actually discussing it you want to tell me to fuck off. I get it. I'll keep any ideas I might have to myself. I personally do not look at the reviews but I see a lot of new people lately asking if one absinthe is better than another…something my suggestion would get rid of (mostly). But, nevermind….

Have I bothered to look at the rest of the site - yes. Why do you ask? Seems the forum is what we are talking about. The reviews are in the forum. Hence, in the database. And to be honest, the guide section isn't the easiest thing to quickly go through when looking for the top absinthes. Too much reading and the breakdown is by country. My suugestion would take care of all of that and give a kind of "Top Ten" or whatever. Again, just trying to make it a bit better but it would take a conversation instead of "fuck off". Which, I will now do.

jmfranc… The reviews in the forums posts are in a MySQL database spread of a multitude of tables. The Buyers Guide, which many people use, is hard coded. Sure, I agree - it would be awesome to have that one "dynamic" as well with all the possibilities that bring, but that is not the case now. It is not a little afternoon piece of cake to try and retrieve the data from the forums database. First of all, you would once again either have to manually go fetch the id of each post or program a little script to keep track of what's new etc…

I've been doing this kind of work for years and years…

An idea could be to actually make the buyers guide, and maybe even other sections "dynamic". That on the other hand is a lot of work and will take time.

he wants to interact with Kallisti

I hate to think of the lady like gag she must emit.

That's right. As moderator of the review section, all I do is keep it on topic, post reviews, and update scores. Thus, when Jmfranc put his question to me privately all I could do was plead ignorance and refer him to the forum at large. Even the little I do is frustrating to me with a dead-slow Internet connection - I can only imagine what Kallisti goes through. Still, I thought the suggestion was worthy of consideration ……..

Certainly. It would be very nice to have the Buyers Guide built up like that and it is very possible to do so. What need to be known however are the things pointed out such as; we cannot easily use the texts right off the forum topics which would mean that manual labor would still be put into it by copying and pasting the texts. Though, rather than pasting them into an HTML file, they'd be copied into some form of "CMS" like system, enabling for nice search and sort features. That and the fact that it requires thought, planning and work to do it. But it is very possible.

Yeah, what a great idea, I guess that is why I'm already working on it. harhar.gif In one form or another anyway.

There's also still the quickie "Index by Brand"

http://www.feeverte.net/guide/idx.html

There's not so many brands that you can't eyeball the list and see what is what. That is what it is for, in any case.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
