I've been reading Luis Bunuel's autobiography, and in the chapter dedicated almost entirely to alcohol (you've gotta love this guy) he mentions his signature drink. The Bunueloni is a takeoff on the Negroni (1 oz. gin, 1 oz. sweet Cinzano, and 1 oz. Campari). Instead of the Campari he uses Carpano. He also recommends using gin in a quantity that assures its dominance over the other two ingredients because he feels that it has excellent effects on the imagination.
In the same chapter he talks about making the perfect martini, and how in the 1940's someone suggested using Pernod instead of bitters. He said it seemed heretical. -------------------- Merdre!

I'm sure the exterminating angel would have loved it.

One of the bonus features on "Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" DVD is a short film of Bunuel demonstrating his martini technique.

Thanks, I had completely forgotten that as I haven't watched the bonus features in a couple of years. Now I'm going to have to watch it again. Hopefully Criterion has some more of his films lined up for eventual re-release. I still haven't seen The Exterminating Angel. I almost bought it on VHS a few years ago but I held out for the dvd that has yet to be released.
