Against my better financial judgement, I placed an order for a bottle of Fougerolles and a bottle of Gentiane. I wanted something new for New Year's and knew that only LdF could get it here in time.

So, in a few days, I'll have to sample both of these and give my lowly opinion of them.

Brett: I persued the same course of action, and me and my lighter wallet are DEFINITELY not sorry!! They're both well worth it, especially the Fougerolles, if your open minded to a really unusual flavor or two.

Unusual flavours are a good thing...sometimes.

. . . in which case, he should promptly mail the remainder to ME.

Don't feel bad Brett, against my better judgement I did the same thing last night. Too much $ spent on absinthe in the last 2 months, but the reviews of forgeyfuck couldn't be ignored.

Still looking for the one....

As someone in the other forum wrote, absinthe gets you through times of no money better than money gets you through times of no absinthe.

Cheers!

Balzdeep:Yeah I know the feeling. Or rather KNEW the feeling for over 5 years...til I found Fou-Juice 72. Better will undoubtedly come along (who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of Peter, Ian and Company...or maybe Ted will stage a big comeback that will make Lazarus seem like an also ran), but if this were the end of the absinthe revival's evolutionary run...I could live with that! dev.gif

Well, I personally looking forward to the Fougerolles. Never having tasted anything like Libertine, I'll have no basis for comparison really.

And hopefully my order from Moonman (it was one of the batches in the high 20s, #27, maybe?) will show up soon.

Brett: There is NO relation between the sugared 55% alcohol, non grape based Libertine and Fou- Juice (thankfully!) If you take to the Veronica (tealike) flavour, you will probably love it...it is certainly a long way from the only flavour...this is complex and yummy, but it seems to be the one hurdle for those who can't relate to a tealike flavour in an absinthe.

I like tea, very much. In fact, I must say it is my favourite non-alcoholic beverage, so a tealike flavour in an absinthe is very appealing.

I used Libertine as a product for comparison because I thought it was made through the some process -perhaps I was thinking of another product?

Brett, Libertine is made by the same distiller as the Verte de Fougerolles (I don't know about the process being similar or not). But...

The V. de Fouge tastes nothing like Libertine. The new Fougerolles is much different and much better.

Last time I heard something like that, I was reading a Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comic book. biggrin.gif
I think it was Freewheelin' Frank that said that but used another word for Absinthe. user posted image

Well, my order arrived this morning. A total of 2 days (15th and 16th) of shipping!

The Gentiane smells like a yummy mixture of Sapin and the creamy licorice of Ricard. The VdF smells promising to say the last. I hope to sample both tonight.

Mine arrived 12/17/03 at noon after ordering Sunday night. Not bad considering they had to deliver it to america's taint.

Consider it good, not as good as hoped, but good and very drinkable none-the-less. The base alcohole is simply amazing (I SAID AMAZING, all you producers of commercial absinthe) and there is no other brand that can hold a match to that. By and far the best distilled brand out there. If only it had more star anise.....
