AVERAGE SCORE 72
Reviewed by Artemis 12/13/2006 COLOR BEFORE WATER 9/10 Typical feuille morte. Somewhat dark honey color with nuance of green still there. LOUCHE ACTION 6/10 Disappointing. Oily swirls develop, but it doesn't cloud fully and never gets anywhere near opaque. COLOR AFTER WATER 6/10 Transparent green/gold. AROMA 19/30 Neat, it smells dark and slightly winey. Pleasant enough, but not intense or flowery. Smells a lot better than absinthe that smells bad, or doesn't smell right, but nothing to shout about. Not as intense as any of the (admittedly few) other vintage absinthes I've tasted. MOUTH-FEEL 6/10 Weak, watery. TASTE 14/20 Vintage absinthe "lite" is about the best way I can describe it. Certainly not bad, but I would never have bought a bottle of this over one of Pernod if I had been a consumer circa 1910. OVERALL IMPRESSION 7/10 Pleasant enough, but there are better absinthes today, and there was at least one much better then. Artemis scores H. Bazinet Jeune circa 1910 67 out of 100 Reviewed by Crosby & Head Prosthesis 1/20/2007 COLOR BEFORE WATER 10/10 A lovely golden brown similar to Wild Turkey. LOUCHE ACTION 9/10 Steadily builds from the bottom, nice orange color. COLOR AFTER WATER 7/10 Opalescent orange brown with green edges. AROMA 28/30 Butterscotchy. MOUTH-FEEL 5/10 Thin & evaporative. TASTE 12/20 Sweeter than expected. Heavy on the melissa & hyssop, light on the wormwood and anise. OVERALL IMPRESSION 7/10 Rather simple and light. Still a rare treat. Crosby & Head Prosthesis scores H. Bazinet Jeune 78 out of 100 Reviewed by Provenance 5/28/2007 COLOR BEFORE WATER 7/10 A shade darker than feuille mort LOUCHE ACTION 6/10 Nice oil trails but ending a little early. A respectable but not exceptional louche COLOR AFTER WATER 6/10 A light, rather thin, golden brown. AROMA 24/30 A limited, rather simple aroma. A slight caramel note when neat. Not unpleasant. Lacks the complex harmony of better absinthes. MOUTH-FEEL 7/10 A creamy underside that I wouldn't have expected from the aroma. TASTE 14/20 A bit woody and one-dimensional OVERALL IMPRESSION 6/10 Interesting but not great. Provenance scores H. Bazinet Jeune 70 out of 100 -------------------- Il arrive souvent que les personnes couvertes d’esprit enflamme courent en appelant du secours.
