Hello everyone in the land of the green fairy. For the last few weeks, I have been giddy with interest about absinthe. For awhile I had heard only whispers and rumors about it, so while at my favorite liqour store, I asked if they had any, and they diredcted me to -suprise!- Absente saying that it had the "maximum allowable content of wormwood"! ( I suppose it does, since it is zero). Though I now know better, I have to say that I do not find it to be repulsive. It has all the flavor and complexity of NyQuil, but is only slightly less sweet and does not louche as well as the cold and flu concoction. I actually quite enjoy it, but I will see once I taste a true absinthe.
As soon as I become un-unemployed, I hope to purchase either Un Emile or La Fee. These will surely be only the begining, as I am fascinated by the experience and tradition of all of this. (Just what I need, another expensive hobby)
Thanks all for the good community and information!
cheers
Matt

Welcome Matt :...Welcomemat? Interesting...I think I'll call you Talus! dev.gif
Well, if you like Absente, you'll probably love the real stuff! La Fee is quite nice, but if you're looking to sample more authentic absinthes, go with the Emiles, or Fougeroles Verte 72, also from LDF. These are painstakingly created distillations that afford the most flavor complexity of commercially available absinthes.
LDF is also the quickest and most consistently reliable of the absinthe vendors...lately, even their shipments are experiencing major delays, due to the worldwide high terrorist alert...it's hard enough for people to fly here from "acroos the pond", let alone absinthe! However, as soon as this particular commotion dies down, I 'm sure absinthe (particularly from LDF)will be flowing with it's usual alacrity! Here's to your avid enthusiasm, and future imbibing adventures with La Fee Verte!!!!!!...Cheers!!!! absynthe.gif absynthe.gif absynthe.gif

Welcome Talus! I would also recommend Fougerolles Verte 72 from LdF. I find their service to be quite exquisite! However, if you would prefer a more exotic brand, other then fou-juice or Any one of the UE's (which I find to be quite enjoyable by the way!) I would highly reccomend the Frenchman, absinthe-online, or spirits corner. As I feel most other users in this forum would reccomend. Spirits corner doesnt have very fast shipping, however they do have a very nice selection of absinthes. Absinthe-online has faster shiping, however not as wide of selection as SC.
About the frenchman, I have not yet purchased from his shop, athough I am about to make my next purchase from there, so I can actually reccomend him to newbies like you.

This is the only bit of hazing I'm going to do, so:

The FAQ was the first thing I read on this site, as I found a link to it while I was originally in search of the fairy.gif
UE is definitely on the list along with the new foogieoire or whatever it is. I am just glad I got into this at a time when it is somewhat available and there is a good selection. I sure hope it continues to be that way. If times become too desperate I suppose I have an aunt and uncle in London that can do some running for me dev.gif
Thanks for the welcome so far, this sure is a warm and eccentric bunch!

Green: Well you covered all the top commercials EXCEPT...La Muse Verte 68...this is an oil mix...not a distillation...but it is very CAREFULLY mixed and decanted, and is extremely complexed and "perfumy"...very herbal, and fairly close to aan authentic recreation of a 19th century absinthe.! absynthe.gif

Cool, I want to try all of them.

Absomphe- I can tell who controlls this joint. Looks like I'm in Cozy Nostril territory. I'l try to keep to my business while in "Cleaverville"

Felis- I'm a dog person myself, but I've never met a cat I didnt like. All that cat class and class style I guess.
