According to the manufacturer: We take a fairly traditional approach to creating Sirène. We use the traditional trinity of absinthe ingredients along with a proprietary blend of additional herbs and spices to create Sirène's richness and complexity. The process requires a significant amount of time, preparation and botanicals, but the result is worth the effort.

COLOR BEFORE WATER 9/10
Lovely, golden, green and natural but slightly dull. No haze or sediment.

LOUCHE ACTION 7/10
Oily swirls and tiny globules intially. Aside from a thin golden meniscus, a heavy, thick louche engulfs the liquid from the bottom up at around 1:1 dilution. This verte is bottled at only 60% alcohol and the oils are released pretty quickly. A fair amount of star anise is at work here as well.

COLOR AFTER WATER 9/10
Thick, golden, milky appearance.

AROMA 23/30
Anise is definitely up front and center. A nice wormwood and herbal mix is lurking back there somewhere but the anise asserts itself a little too aggressively. Still pleasant overall with minimal detectable heat.

MOUTH-FEEL 6/10
Short lived smooth and creamy feel gives way to tongue-numbing and pastiness.

TASTE 15/20
Like the mouthfeel, the taste is promising at first but quickly yields to the star anise/licorice blast. Subtle hints of mint and juniper seem to be hiding in the background.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 8/10
An honest, first effort from a small scale distiller. Sirène Verte is a distilled, naturally colored and easily drinkable absinthe. Scaling back the star anise would likely improve Sirène in the louche, aroma, taste and mouthfeel categories. I usually prepare my absinthe with sugar but this one was far too sweet with sugar added. The review reflects it without sugar. All in all, a decent American-made absinthe. I have no regrets about having purchased a couple bottles.

COLOR BEFORE WATER 10/10
Golden green

LOUCHE ACTION 8/10
Turbulent, but slow

COLOR AFTER WATER 8/10
Greenish, not that opaque as one might assume from the louche action

AROMA 26/30
Very refreshing, minty, slightly anisy, no alcohol on the nose

MOUTH-FEEL 6/10
Although it is just 60%, requires more water, so 1:4 at least, alcoholic punch, star anise and mint, wormwood far in the back, mouthfeel is not particularly heavy, but too spicy

TASTE 10/20
Very spicy and very little herbal. The bitterness is so far away that almost unreachable

OVERALL IMPRESSION 6/10
I am not against, I am not for, I am confused. Needs a thorough revision, shows promise

A little confusing. I found it at the time, along with Obsello, to be quite a light louche ratio, both "blowing out" much past 1:3. I'm surprised you didn't key off on the citrus aspect of this one.
