Having checked it thoroughly I must say good job is done and the #14 batch is a really promising one. And since I mentioned it in reviews, shall repeat it again: being a hardline grain advocate, I see using pisco as a base in Leopold to be fully justified and bringing forth nice results. The pisco gives another advantage-you can savour Leopold neat and it is very pleasureable.

Well said Provenance. I find the pisco also makes it a great flavor component for certain cocktails like the Treblement de Terre (also if rum is substituted for the congac) and Suisesse.

I received a sample of Leopold bros absinthe Verte today.

It is fantastic and one of the best absinthe on the market.

The pisco base is well integrated and makes for a great original product. It contribute to the spiciness of the overall product while providing a delicate fruitiness to it. It manages to remain dry (if no sugar is added) and it doesn't numb the tongue even if the louche is superb and the texture is creamy.

This absinthe taste and smells of high quality herbs and alcool. It is also a little bit soapy but this is not overwhelming and I would say it contributes to the whole and draws you back to it for another sip.

If I was able to buy it locally or even to order it on the web (not every seller will ship to Quebec), I would certainly get a bottle or two. If someone can help me get a full bottle, PM me.

EDIT: that was batch #14.

Wolfgang: I once considered trying to trick drinkupny.com into shipping to Canada, but I ran out of money, and never got the chance to try. I know we've got problems with some overseas vendors, but we've never tried with american vendors yet.

Its odd; drinkupny states the shipping prices, (specifically for "bottles"), for canada here: http://www.drinkupny.com/Articles.asp?ID=132

Yet they also say here, (FAQ #6), that they can't ship to canada: http://www.drinkupny.com/Articles.asp?ID=131

I'm sure its something they don't deal with often, and their checkout feature doesn't prevent you ordering from canada. I'm sure if you emailed them about this and brought it to their attention they'd get scared of losing money and make it much more pronounced on the site. Best to make a cheap trial purchase. Something makes me think that an american order might make it through canadian customs.

I don't know… its a gamble. I'm sure they'd refund your money, and you'd only be out the shipping. I'd try it myself, but I don't have the cash to spend at the moment.

Anyways, failing this, you'd have to get a friend to send you a bottle.

Also, please let me know if this works, I've heard great things about leopolds and I'd like to try it too.

Problem is they state they are not responsible for local taxes and blablabla… Which probably mean they won't ship it as something it is not. In Quebec where there's a monopoly liquor board, this means they dont even give you the option to pay the damn taxes, they seize it and that's it (not related to absinthe, it would be the same for gin or wine).

The only way to get the product legally is to fill tons of liquor board's paperwork so they could order it for you (and it ends up costing about twice the price, which in most case is prohibitive).

The only "easy and legal way" to get the products we want is to travel south and buy it ourselves. Then I'm pretty sure customs will let you pay the fees and taxes (if you have too many bottles) and at leaqst you'll be able to keep it if you pay.

Too bad I don't live closer to the border and don't plan any vacation in the states this year.

Drink Up NY isn't even stocking the Leopold Bros right now. I had a bottle on order that had delayed shipping because another absinthe in the order was still in pre-release. A few weeks ago, while waiting for the release date of the 2nd absinthe, I got an e-mail from DUNY stating that Leopold was out of stock and the distiller does not have distribution in New York any longer. I substituted another bottle in the order although I was a bit perturbed that they had run out of a product that I had ordered when it was available on their site and hadn't set a bottle aside to fulfill my purchase. No big problem though because they've been cool about things in general.

Still not sure where I'm going to get some Leopold Bros to try though. I'll have to check for other vendors that ship to my neck of the woods.

We're still working out distribution in NY….other distillers looking into NY distribution should contact me before getting on board with certain firms. I'll leave it at that.

Best Cellars in Wash DC (Dupont Circle) can help you out, Lord Stanley. Ask for Graham. My apologies for the outage. It's our fault, not DUNY's.

Yeah Stan, I had the same thing happen with the DP pre-order and putting in for some Leo at the same time. I'm glad I have at least a little Leo left in my supply. I was really looking forward to more, but I'm not totally heartbroken to have to swap it out for CLB.

But if you haven't tried it yet, I super highly recommend it uber lots.

Godspeed getting distribution going again Todd!

Tell me about it…
Todd, are you going to DUNY's Absinthe Event?

I do think DUNY needs to do a better job of keeping track of their pre-orders, however. I pre-ordered Meadow of Love, and when I called to see if I could come pick up my bottle, they initially said they were out of stock, so I pointed out I had paid for the bottle and expected to have it, and they put me on hold, came back and said they had found the bottle.

Sadly, no, Marc. We were planning on it, but our distribution situation made this a bit pointless.

Good to hear, Marc. We were paid in full for 1st and only shipment ( we demanded cash before shipment). Others were not so lucky as they offered terms. Some lost in the mid-5 figures. Yikes.
