La Berthe de Joux

According to Emile-Pernot: The Berthe de Joux absinthe from the Emile Pernot distillery is the great succes of 2010, and the first original absinthe crafted entirely by our newly appointed master distiller, with very rich mountainous fragrances combined with a refinement reminding the greatest absinthes from the 19th century, a BIG surprise that met a tremendous infatuation all around the world.

AVERAGE SCORE 83

COLOR BEFORE WATER 9/10
Quite deep, green turning to golden.

LOUCHE ACTION 7/10
With patience this absinthe louches perfectly but I could not make it produce turbulent clouds, fine layers nevertheless.

COLOR AFTER WATER 8/10
Nearly opaque light green, not too white, natural looking.

AROMA 25/30
Neat: flowering wormwood, a little bit meady, some light fruity notes. Same after water, solid, proper absinthe aroma where individual herb aromas are combined in good balance.

MOUTH-FEEL 9/10
Tingling, velvety, cool, absolutely no burning or heat.

TASTE 16/20
Fine sweetness from anise, light herbal dryness that cannot be called 'bitter' in any other way but the way absinthe should be. Sweetness increases in aftertaste somewhat.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 9/10
Wonderfully many absinthe aromas and proper taste including sweetness packed in just 56% ABV. Very much recommended.

Bruno Rygseck scores La Berthe de Joux 83 out of 100
