Joan of Arc was murdered in 1431 and Henry was born in 1553. I wonder if there was a statue of Joan at the Tuileries in Henry's time, to which Henry made his proposal (reminds me of a line from a song by Madness: "lovestruck, I've fallen for a lamp post, giving her my utmost, pouring out my deepest feelings"). Henry, apparently a popular man for a king, had the Pont Neuf built, and was also murdered. His killer was pulled apart by horses. Here's Joan in New Orleans:
