Easier to avoid it, unfortunately.

The bad version of Pernod is just the old version in the new bottles. It was a really stupid thing for them to do.

Pernod Absinthe Superwhat?

The new P.A.S. (the Finns can fill in the missing letters) is even less good than the (nostalgic) oil-mix in the looks-like-a-home-computer-made-label'led bottle. I tried it in the bar and 5,50 euros spent on it made me drink it bottoms up (a good Finn never sinks booze). Hollow, with bitter aftertaste. However, the barwoman was nice: Icewater was served, according to my suggestion, in a steel pitcher with a lid, normally used for cream (for coffee). The bar experience itself was nice although the drink wasn't. I guess that's one way how alcoholics are made.

- On the topic: good thing that the IGP was rejected.

So the absinthe IGP is finally and completely dead! They are going to file a new IGP for "Absinthe Val de Travers" and "Fée Verte Val de Travers". No problem!

I don't know why they even need a second IGP, seems like a waste of money unless you are trying to grab as many tourist dollars as possible.

If I understand what I read at the French forum, it might cause problems among distillers within the designated "region" (Val de Travers in this case) because it imposes recipe restrictions. You have to make the stuff that's the approved stuff to be able to legally call it the stuff. But apparently you can opt out, make what you want, and just avoid using the protected words on your label. I agree that the new designation makes little sense. It supposedly started out as an anti-Czech thing, and nobody there or anywhere else has ever claimed their absinthe to be of Val de Travers origin when it wasn't, as far as I know.

Funny thing.
The best tasting peep-o-ccino I've ever made was with Opie's faux-bleue.

It was just sweet enough, and just fake enough, to make the drink fantastic.

Yeah, I thought about the faux bleue that was around back in the day, but decided not to mention it. I don't know about Opie, but I was thinking of some that I thought came from Switzerland, but as it turned out maybe didn't. And it was great. So maybe I never knew true faux. I did watch some of his films, though.

You are right Artemis, the IGP does restrict the distiller on his recipes, that was often cited to me during my visit to the festival in Boveresse. As I walked among the different distiller booths there were plenty of anti IGP signs around an no pro IGP anything.

I was assuming the court costs were payable in Euros and trying to save them exchange fees.
