In the last scene of Brian de Palma's "Femme fatale" the background is a bar, with old looking signs in the windows.

Zooming to the left, you can see a sign reading:

"CONSOMMATIONS
DE
1 (illegible sign, "er"?) CHOIX
ABSINTHE
20 (illegible sign, looks like an "s". Sous?)

The background is unimportant to the movie's plot, so this may be an actual place in Paris and not a prop. As a prop, it would be amazingly accurate.

Maybe one of the Paris' members of the Forum can shed some light on this?
Head_prosthesis
Sous is mentioned several times in Kikis Memoirs.

"At noon, I ate in a cheap hash-joint for
eight sous; but even at that, they left entirely
too much gravel in the beans!"

See, Head, except for your "mercy fuck", this interesting, informative thread gets ignored.

Sadly, trash sells...

"It is sad that trash sells"

I noticed the sign in Femme Fatale a while back too. Went by too quickly to read much of it though once I saw the absinthe reference.

Perhaps they're expecting some sort of hidden agenda
behind this thread, or perhaps they don't see the point in
trying to carry on a cheerful conversation with you in light
of the big brewhaha in your now epic "Censorship" thread.

You can't have it both ways.

I can, because I'm Head_prosthesis,

You may see more in a big movie screen, I used a 29" one, not HDTV.

It was good to see the historical reference, it totally destroyed my collection of absinthe plates.... BWAAAA!!!

I can't comment on your question because:

1) I've never seen the movie.

2) I've never been to Paris.

Maybe you should give people some time to read your question before expecting an answer.

And the grammer in either of your above statements would be correct.
dr_ordinaire
We assumed most everybody in the Forums (USA and Europe) had seen the movie, since it takes a long time for the video to reach Uruguay.

No, it was not our intention to "pull rank", just to surprise you with something you may have missed.

Some sexy FF scenes too.

I was going to respond with a quote from the Marquis de Sade about what a sous can get you, but:

1. I couldn't be bothered to look it up.

2. It would only be viewed as sarcasm and we wouldn't want any of that in here.

3. What Head said.

If I ever see the movie, I'll try to see the sign.

I was watching the movie on a 46" widescreen HDTV. I just didn't notice the word absinthe in the scene until right before the camera pulled away.

the euro owns.
le Gimp
I didn't comment, because I only saw part of the movie on cable. I never saw the mentioned sign.
Lord Stanley
Strangely enough, Femme Fatale is on HBO right now. Just caught the last scene that you're talking about.

The building with the absinthe sign is called the Cafe Vins Fins (hope I got that right) and it says Le Paradis on the door.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about your spelling of the word "grammar". harhar.gif

He's Curly, I'm supposed to kick him around.

You know what they say. If you can formulate sentences properly, you can't spell. If you can spell, you can't formulate sentences properly.

Sixela needs to give you a good spanking. w00t2.gif
