Asked by a radio interviewer once what her ultimate meal would be, Child said: "Red meat and a bottle of gin."

Sounds like she had fun.

Way to go Julia, here is a Pork Chop Salute. chop.gif
Absomphe
I'll bet she's livin' it up with Jennifer, from the"Two Fat Ladies" series, in English culinary "heaven", right about now.

Maybe they'll be checking out the New Orleans absinthe dinner, in "spirit", at least.
I_B_Puffin
She was 91, almost 92, and who says red meat and high fat food is bad for you.
emmy
all my life, i thought that my dad was my only hero... but today, after hearing the news, i realized there was another.

sad day in emiland. i've poured my grief into two glasses of n.o. so far. i'll stop when i'm asleep.
Absomphe
The Jades do provide such comfort, in times of extreme sadness...
Steve
I am very sad. I loved and admired Julia very much.
MarKoPoLo
Uh....Who's Julia?

Uh....Who's Julia?

Kids?
Head_prosthesis
If she was on "WOK with YAN" you'd know.
Absomphe
Nice sp_ike.gif reference, fearless leader, but considering the source, I have to wonder, even then.
Head_prosthesis
Yeah.

I'm older than I think I am.
G&C
Aren't we all?
Absomphe
But probably younger than you know you are.

She was on Emeril's show recently - the live show, not the old reruns. They said they were old friends. She was barely holding it together physically, but her humor was sharp. They made big nasty cheeseburgers about three inches high.

Rather perverse of them to call it a "thin" burger.

Now that I think about it, I saw a show with Emeril showing Julia how to boil crabs and crawfish, probably this one:

Uh...So she's a cook?
Artemis
Dirt napper.
Donnie Darko
My favourite series involving her was with Jacques Pepin, my idol chef.
It was a great pairing, since they were both masters of French cuisine, though their styles are completely different.

August is a bad month for losing culinary greats. First Jeff Smith, now Julia Childs.

Uh...So she's a cook?

She's probably the most well know cook in this country. She's the one who popularized cooking shows.
Absomphe
Marko, sometimes I think you just play at being so completely clueless.

Nobody could actually live in that much of a vacuum.

Could they?
mr-rabid
She is why there is now such a thing as the 'food channel.''

Young, Canadian, and clueless is no way to go through life.

Youth may be wasted on the young...

But it's especial;y wasted on the young and sp_ike.gif.

Not an icon of my youth, exactly--I remember the Galloping Gourmet--but now that I cook more, she should have been.

Who remembers Dan Aykroyd (or was it Chevy Chase?) doing the SNL lead-in as a very drunk Julia having a cooking accident?

He owes you, Julia.

Especially when they try to impart some to the young and Canadian, as you're always so eager to prove. harhar.gif

Akroyd. Chevy never had comedic skill on that level. He cut a vein with a kitchen knife and proceeded to bleed to death on camera as "Julia".
They played a snip of that skit on every news program that I saw announcing Julia's death, and I have the feeling she would have been just fine with that.
