www.jasondaquino.com Creepy, just the way I like it.
Donnie Darko
I like the idea of matchbook art.

Robert Williams is the artist that fits me just right (at the moment):

Never been much of an art lover. I see something I like and that's usually the end of it. The only two artists that have stuck out for me are Boris Vallejoand HR Giger

Art snobs would probably call me mainstream, but the hell with it.
I_B_Puffin
I also like Giger. My favorite however is Olivia de Berardinis. Her site www.eolivia.com. Her publisher's website http://www.rbeditions.com/oli.asp

Good stuff. I used to buy the Vallejo calendars every year.
Hiram
Oh jeez, don't get me started on art.

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema
Jean-Leon Gerome as well as a bunch of other orientalists.
Hieronymus Bosch
Odd Nerdrum.
HR Giger (I was an early adopter - i.e. before Alien)
Mark Ryden

I could go on.
Barsnake
My own personal favorite...

http://www.daligallery.com/

Well...hello, Dali
Hiram
Yeah, him too. He was probably my first actual favorite artist.
Symbiote
That Mark Ryden fella is twisted.

I love it!
grey boy
Yes, he is very interesting.

verawench
Balthus
Odd Nerdrum
the Symbolists (Gustave Moreau - if you haven't been to the museum in Paris, for shame)

And here's a fella I like: Ray Caesar:

Gertz
An impressive recent discovery for me was a russian painter named Nikolai Nikolaievitch Gay. I saw a painting of his at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Nerdrum is indeed a favourite of mine. David Bowie once visited him to buy a painting. Afterwards, Nerdrum was asked what Bowie was like. "We have only one thing in common," he replied. "We both like my paintings".

Hieronymus Bosch

I could go on.

Bosch is mindblowing, given he made his art a few HUNDRED years before surrealism was ever conceived.

I suppose since we're talking about artists we shouldn't forget graphic novel artists:

Peter Kuper: http://www.peterkuper.com

Frank Miller: http://www.budplant.com/bio.itml/icOid/8275

Jhonen Vasquez: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/9565/
atomicvibe
I have respect for many different artists from many different time periods, but some of my notable favorites are:

Vincent van Gogh
Pablo Picasso
Alexander Rodchenko
Salvador Dali
M.C. Escher

Oxy just recently turned me on to the works of Gustave Henri Jossot

Some modern artists:
Coop
Aidan Hughes
Ed "Big Daddy" Roth
Definitely feeling the work of Robt. Williams (someone mentioned him before)

Graffiti-style art:
Futura
Kinsey
123klan
Fatoe

If you're really into inking yourself, most of those could very easily go into tattoos, with the right artist. I'm not a tattoo girl. Just a thought. Lots of dark lines.
Symbiote
I was thinking the same thing. user posted image
Symbiote
How about Hongito Shenk?

I can see a few of these ending up as ink.

traineraz
On whom?

Nerdzilla?
Symbiote
I went back to look at Mark Ryden's work again and noticed this.

I think he got Christina Ricci's tits wrong.
Artemis
I don't recall her name, but I liked it well enough to cop a download and use it in my avatar for a while:

Symbiote
I like that piece as well. If you happen to recall the artist's name please let me know.
Artemis
I tracked it down the same way I found it in the first place - I had been looking for images of Baron Samedi (the guy in the top hat) when I came across it.

Her name was Rosaleen Norton.

Thanks Arty.

I can't remember if we talked about these two here before or not, but they certainly fit the thread...

I can't remember now if Vera turned
me on to this site or if it was vice versa
but I keep going back to it and it keeps
getting more haunting.

Be sure to move the cursor around.
It's interactivific!

That's some cool web design!

Reminds me of some horror movies I've seen here and there, and some of the hallucinations in Phantasmagoria 2 (video game).

The Alien vs. Predator pic is something, too!
Symbiote
I remember something about this site winning an award for web design a while back.

"Senior Partner" by Nathan Greene

Donnie Darko
Wow, talk about unfair business practices. I bet he knows when the company's stock will be up and down! Good way to increase productivity too. The new company motto under CEO J.H.Christ is "Work harder or go to hell." Plus employees would have to work on Yom Kippur, Rosh Hoshanna and other Jewish holidays. I'm sure the company Easter party would be pretty rad though, like I bet Jesus would turn all the water coolers into wine and shit.

Too bad Mr. Greene doesn't paint Jesus defending prostitutes or lashing out at greed like in the old days.
Pataphysician
…and it looks like every day is casual Friday for him.

Those are the creepiest paintings I've ever seen.
Kirk
Are they a joke?
Are they horror pictures?
I don't get it,
was this artist for real?

Oh, it's no joke.

What, no painting of him standing behind Bush while he orders the invasion of Iraq? This guy is too moderate for me.
Gertz
Holy shit.

Actually.

What I like best about his stuff is that, like any contemporary Fundamentalist he just makes up his own version of the Bible. My Bible doesn't have the part about Jesus in the Garden of Eden.

Actually, what I like best is that, God damn!, that Eve is one fucking hot babe.
