I saw that yesterday evening.

Max's comment was "Absinthe! Do you know how strong that stuff is?" as he confiscates it from teenagers at the party. He then pours some of it in the cocktail mix to fuck up his estranged wife Tanya, who then drinks a glass of cocktail that contains a bit of absinthe and she is instantly 'off her face'. Max then abducts their 3 children out of the house while Tanya is too hammered to realise anything, and is rolling on the floor with Sean.

Powerful stuff that absinthe. A few drops of that added to your cocktail and you go from sober to totally off your face in seconds!

You have to love Eastenders though. It's complete crap, but I've been watching it religiously for over 25 years.

I didn't have you pegged as a fan of "Eastenders", Hobgoblin.

Neither would I, but I am.

I can't stand Australian and American soaps, and Coronation St and Emmerdale I find a bit dreary, but there's something about Eastenders that just keeps me watching.
The Standard Deviant
It's a common favourite of teachers as it's not too challenging to watch at the same time as marking.
hobgoblin
I guess so.
Head_prosthesis
I like seeing EastEnders because it makes me
thirsty for pints. When it's on, I have a perfect
excuse for drinking.

Kallisti has to choose her tv providers very
carefully based on whether or not she can view
EastEnders.

About the time that I got here to California BBC America
stopped showing the current EastEnders episodes. She was
left with watching it on one of the local PBS stations. The problem
with that is, they're showing episodes that are four or five years old.
Two episodes, once a week. The only way to keep up was read the website.

Recently I found that one could download these episodes from the
internet. Too bad BBC doesn't just have a subscription service for the
rest of the world (I've read all their programs are available online in
most parts of the UK).

Having some insight on what a fantastically, pathetic, wanker
Shaun Williamson's character "Barry" was on the show and his
demise at the hands of town con artist and whore Janine REALLY
adds to the chuckles in Ricky Gervais' EXTRAS.
Head_prosthesis
And I just now discovered the 2DTV versions
of EastEnders. I hate to say it but "lol".
The Standard Deviant
How about this then: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3S3Txsl2vs ? I should warn that you may have nightmares afterwards.
Pataphysician
We used to watch it religiously in the late 1980s and then lost track of it. I was amazed to see it's still on. It must have a longer run than "Guiding Light." I remember having to turn the volume way up because we couldn't understand half of what they were saying.
hobgoblin
Eastenders went a bit wierd a while back, with gang murders and stuff, but its now settled back down to the relative normality of men shagging their son's wives and the like. Of course there is always a resident psycho (Sean, these days) on the square just in case a murder is needed to boost the ratings.

Oh God! That was fabulous. Dr. Ian-stein is especially creepy. I
still can't believe he's the chick magnet of Walford. But you know,
maybe that's me just fleeing reality like I'm liable to do.

The Standard Deviant
Have a look at Cyriak's other creations. They are quite astounding.

I reckon she's out to blackmail him, what other motivation could she have?
Head_prosthesis
She's certainly an evil one. Her character doesn't
seem to be much of a stretch from the one she played
on Holly Oaks.

We're hoping to see more Absinthe exploitation in the
Max/Tanya story. Maybe we'll get to see the young
DJ Bungle whip out the Absynth pipe.
Head_prosthesis
Well, no more Absinthe references. But Tanya
did attempt to kill Max.

The trademark endings. They've had some real
dillies lately, eh? Last nights episode with Sean
looking through the broken window of Booty!
Enter the psycho.
Provenance
Butt enough about the election.
Head_prosthesis
Pernod!

The sophisticated drink
that soothes the pregnant stomach.

He's trying to quit Coronation Street (that's why he keeps repeating to himself that it's "a bit dreary"). Gotta have something to ease the withdrawal symptoms.

Now on the other hand there is someone who's never seen Coronation Street. The Queen Vic is really pathetically blatant ersatz.

Ah -- when nostalgia for Greater Manchester hits me, I can always kid myself that it's no longer worth it to go back now that Night Network and Tony Wilson are no more.
Head_prosthesis
True, I've not spent as much time with Coronation St. I have seen a few minutes here and there on the CBC during my years in Michigan. Lots of largely pedestrian, fleshy, square heads. But it was Louchedliver who first introduced me to EE. Good thing too. Because now it's a staple in our house.
