COLOR BEFORE WATER 10/10
Mountain crystal. Very clear.

LOUCHE ACTION 9/10
Nice to look at, but quicker than in a verte variety.

COLOR AFTER WATER 7/10
Opaque with delicate bluish tinge.

AROMA 26/30
Very herbal. Anise at the back and very subtle. Pleasant, but not aggressive. Nuanceful and well-balanced.

MOUTH-FEEL 9/10
Very atypical of blanche. Strong, very strong herbacousness, anethole buddies definitely in the back. Bitterness in the initial attack slowly transforming into badiane bite, still very pleasant, not obtrusive.

TASTE 18/20
Roman chamomile(?) and wormwood play the avantgarde here, IMO, though. The taste has depth and boldness. Very herbal, very decisive.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 10/10
Not another one-dimensional blanche or fennel-wormwood bomb in the style of Swiss les bleues. Absinthe of strong personality with crazy initial taste (I have particularly liked) and mellow, if very bold aftertaste.

COLOR BEFORE WATER 9/10
Crystal clear.

LOUCHE ACTION 9/10
Good paced action; a well defined cloud bank builds up with yet another distinct clear layer of jellies on top.

COLOR AFTER WATER 9/10
Opalescent white with copper and blue highlights; nice oil slicks on the surface.

AROMA 25/30
-Before water- Intriguing, alpine, floral, and herbal.

-After water- The intrigue is still there, strongly reminiscent of tarragon but with less pungent and more briskness. Clear anise/fennel underpinning with citrus/coriander suggestions in the background. Odd but good.

MOUTH-FEEL 8/10
Adequately round/full bodied at the start, then turns into crisp and palate cleansing by mid sip. Nice minty finish, but I wish the zing lasted just a bit longer.

TASTE 17/20
As with the aroma, and interesting herbaceous flavor that I initially found very tarragonish, but not in a bad way. Upon further taste exploration, I believe this may be due in large part to good wormwood commingling with a powerful expression of very high quality chamomile. Anise and fennel are the foundation, but are in no way shy, and I believe add a bit of nice fruitiness to go along with everything else.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 9/10
Another very unique absinthe from Helfrich. I can see that not everyone might like it, but that's probably only because they're stupid and/or have no taste buds (ok, those are two possible explanations, I'm sure there could be others). If you’re feeling adventurous and can get a hold of one the dwindling bottles, I think you’ll find it’s a terrific blanche and a refreshing deviation if you need a la bleue break. Conjures pseudo-memories of kicking back in a wooden lounger outside a lodge on a sunny but cold alpine morning.

PERSONAL NOTES
3:1 iced brouille, no sugar.

Nope, just posting reviews very late. tv_horror.gif

Lemercier Double fits the line, if HB is missed.
Steve
?? Something by Lemercier is good? I am shocked.
absinthist
But only Double, Triple is just ordinary vodka.
pierreverte
and in France a 'douche' is a shower, but here…
absinthist
http://www.diedusche.at/ as well. The word isn't limited to French language only: English douche, French douche, German Dusche, Italian doccia, Lithuanian dušas, Norwegian dusj, Russian дyш, Swedish dusch

Shabba53
I think you missed the point…
absinthist
The point is that Triple is wrong, Double is ok. Both are worth trying to see the difference. If something else is implied, please do tell…
pierreverte
Yes, that is what I meant.
Green Baron
I'm skeptical that a Lemercier could taste anything like a Helfrich, but I sure do find the word Duschwunder amusing. Sounds like a great name for a fakesinthe. Or maybe a krautrock band.
absinthist
Not tasting the same or similarly, but fitting the line of the style: "herbaceous blanche, not la bleue", is that difficult to grasp?
Steve
But did they add wormwood oil to make it 35 ppm?
Tibro
If I understand correctly, a douche with too sharp a point would not be desirable.
absinthist
None of them is named "amer aux…", so both shall be in the range up to 10 mg/l. The labels say: "boisson spiritueuse aux plantes d'absinthe".

I'm really not so sure about the grasping. ZombieHand.gif Butt now that you've elaborated, I understand the point ewe were trying to make.

wunderschön.

If only there was a successor for Helfrich Blance (and for the verte, of course)--that would be wunderbaum. I mean wunderbar.

Helfrich
There probably will be.
Green Baron
Knowing it's a possibility makes me rather happy. LARS!.gif

You've gotta love a man who serves to make others happy. This is indeed good news. If probabilities play appropriately.
Steve
If you were on facebook you would know this already.
speedle
If Mark Zuckerberg were on FV, he would steal that slogan.
Tibro
I don't really feel the need to be the first to learn things that are published on basefook. Since it is well known that FV is the center of the universe anything worth knowing will eventually make its way here. No need to over-complicate.
