Full Version: Trippin' Balz on Absinthe
The Fée Verte Absinthe Forum - The Oldest, Largest, Most Authoritative Absinthe Forum. > Absinthe & Absinthiana > Dr Magnan's Lab

Since Oxy is too modest to post the link himself…

It has become evident that a significant percentage of
consumers and potential consumers
want the myths about the
psychotropic properties of absinthe to be true, even in the
face of compelling evidence that they are not. For these
consumers, absinthe, without its drug like allure, is no longer
interesting. In this misapprehension they are encouraged by a
handful of unscrupulous manufacturers who continue to
hype the th
ujone myth.

Not to mention unscrupulous posters who misleadingly title threads.
Provenance
'course the word filter makes it a bit hard to link to sites with thujone in their name.

Just reminded me what an impressive website that is and how lucky we are to have David pouring over and archiving foggy pre ban minutia as well as producing and disseminating new, pertinent papers.
Cheers David!

Finally got a chance to read the paper. While we are all probably familiar with most of the content, the most important thing about the article is that it squarely targets internet marketers who hype the "absinthe as a drug" image, and points out the EU should adopt the US's regulatory stance of forbidding the product to be represented as anything like a drug. Hopefully this will reduce the popularity/availability of those shit Czech products we've been plagued with for so long.

Are any of them even legal for sale here now?

Koruna (all natural! that's the one with the wormwood bits floating in it), Djabel and Green Fairy (red and green Stromu, no sign yet of the infamous yellow Stromu), there's actually a bunch approved. But most don't seem to be getting a lot of traction. Plenty of Absente and Grande Absente around.

Few shops are interested in carrying more than 2 or 3 absinthes. Why take up shelf space from the 89,000 brands of vodka which you know will sell.

You really think that prior to buying a bottle of TripSinth someone is going to read medical journal articles? That stuff is purchased by kidz who wouldn't know peer-reviewed literature if it bit them in the balz.
Tibro
Sounds like you think peer-reviewed literature lacks teeth.

Remember, the profit margin on TripSinth is so astronomically beyond what the artisans realize that they've got incentive and maneuverability that will keep them in the game far beyond their sell-by date. Which should have already passed. You thought twinkies were indestructible?

The kids will never read it, but regulators looking to set policy for absinthe labeling and formulation might.
