I propose to further amuse myself by not only reading the threads featuring, but posting excerpts from, people whose names pop up in the Cake Hole but never come around anymore.

Ooooh. Pretty spoon. How well does it work for absinthe?

I would have thought you'd be more into the feats of strength.

What happened to the Lounge? I was just beginning to get used to all the abuse.

As a hobbyist mechanic I've also tasted most automotive fluids and solvents. I'd prefer any of them to Logan Fils.

I heard he's a pedophile.... unless he says nice things about absinthe, in which case he'd be swell.

I'll also add that many people simply do not like absinthe.

Darxtar:

Wow, I'm knackered reading all this! It was like watching a soap opera.

The first time I drank absinthe I had a dream that I saw a guy being a complete jerk to his girlfriend so I threw a baby shark at him.

... fratboy retards that claim to trip after taking flaming shots of Hill's

... she'd probably throw a berzerker rage hissy fit and make me sleep on the porch

Fuck you. You're a forum full of trolls.

Yeah, thanks. Fuck you. Stick your head right back up your ass, ok? It's not like you belong here anymore than I do, you fucking piece of shit.

I spent some time preparing Rimbaud's memorial, but I wasn't sure he qualifies. He's been gone less than a year. Besides, he had 47 pages of quotes and I hadn't envisioned working that hard on it. Then I digressed into reading 18 pages of a cross-forum melee that took place in 2008. I think I stayed away from here (and the Internet in general) that year - for sure I hadn't seen any of that thread before today. By the time I had finished digressing, it wasn't his birthday anymore, anyway.

Ah, but did you get your piece of meat back?

Hey, I can respect a guy's refusal to be a lemminglike suckup.

None of this stuff holds a candle to Black Sabbath.

This nasty absinthe wanna-be stuff I made from an essence kit off of ebay gives me tertiaries in the form of a horrible mind-numbing aftertaste that has been reverberating in the depths of my brain for days !

I learned hard and fast my first few days in the Navy , soap on a rope is your friend !

Am wanting to experience the full range of qualities eventually , which includes the truly crappy ones .

Steve
I started to post a topic for Rimmy here yesterday after wishing him a happy birthday on Facebook, then I remembered he doesn't come here anymore, so it didn't seem appropriate. Sad.

QUOTE

That'll only happen when we advance to a Star Trek type of civilization where there's no money and people work for personal improvement, etc.

"...then liberally coat the spoon or grille with with your own urine just like the French did at the fin de siecle..."

I can see myself squealing like a little schoolgirl over the right absinthe spoon in the future.

Several birthdays went by while I was in Mississippi. I had no Internet, just acres and acres of grass to mow. It was nice, better than sifting through dead posts. I think I remember seeing Ari was up when I got back.

QUOTE
Salvia, cigars, fireworks and absinth. It's like getting a darwin award isn't even hard anymore.

QUOTE
The whining comes after he was ribbed and instead of apologizing or expanding his question he went into some sort of tirade. I'm curious, is it acceptable at your house for a new guest to demand you answer a question and then rant when they don't get the answer they want?

QUOTE
The one thing I think is being ignored is the power of marketing, if it ever happens to real absinthe. When it comes to the masses never underestimate their willingness to sit around and wait to be told what to wear, eat, drink and say. (If say Oprah (for example) started drinking absinthe, I would expect the number of people who hate anise to suddenly drop).

Andy the condor is certainly a pretty bird, but it's still a carrion eater and that makes it a buzzard to me. It would give me the willies to have a buzzard perched on the top of my absinthe fountain.

QUOTE
I am not going to try to write this very articulate because that is not the purpose of me writting this. This is a warning.
I started drinking absinthe about a year ago. I live in europe so it is pretty easily aquired here.
I started noticing the bad effects I would say about 4 months after drinking it.
I am not pysicist and do not claim to be one however, I believe the thoujon to accumulate in your system and after a while it startes to wear on you. Wormword is said to be a psycoactive. When I drank Absinthe I felt great increased energy, 'permasmile', euphoria, and very social. However i also felt nausia and anxiety.
If you believe Absinthe to be a psycoactive wait untill you quit!! In my experience, the withdraw from Absinthe from someone who has been drinking for a while is utterly horrible. Sleeplessness, constant fear, clenching of teeth, hullucinations, and if you ever wanted to know how it feels to be completely insane wait till you start having Absinthe withdraws.
I respect Absinthe more than ever now. I will never touch it ever again. It is one addiction I do not want to have. Please listen to my warning.

My poor wife is scared about me writing this, because she pictures you as a guy in a pleather chair, with an unCuban cigar, in an unfinished basement somewhere in Nebraska with a tortured dead girl tied up next to him, as you write these horribibly unfeeling things.

Frero Zhaka doesn't strictly qualify because he hasn't been gone for the arbitrary and meaningless length of time upon which I decided in lieu of the actual legal documents proving that any of these people are officially dead.

However, it's going to be hard to top that post for anybody at any time, so:

QUOTE
Good Sir:

You may be surprise to hear from me. I have gotten your email address from the Internet and I hope I can trust you. I am DR. OPIE MOFOH and represent the estate of JEAN LAFITTE, who died in POTNALEI^H^H^PONTALERI in 2001 without heirs but left behind 100 cases each of SWISS LA BLUEUEUE, ORIGINAL PERNODE ABSINTHE, and JADE. These are sitting in a warehouse owned by a security company in Amsterdam, the NETHERLANDS. Due to visa problems, I cannot visit there, and that is why I need your help. I need you to transfer this ABSINTH to your own warehouse space in your country, from whence it can come to me. In return, you get 30% of the ABSYNTHE, 60% goes to me, and 10% is set aside for the ABSYNTH we will both drink in the course of arranging this matter.

Please send me your eBay PAYPAL details, shipping informations and modalities. I trust you are an honest person and won't tell the bad persons on http://feeverte.net/forum about this matter

Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU SIR

You can trust me indeed, I will not tell those ugly vulgar people at ...................... or ....................... I think God touched us both on the testicles when you found my address. Email is really the best way to get a hold of me. I had my phone priviledges revoked at my job because of some ugly vulgar man in South Africa.

If I remember correctly, FDA standards, like a lot of federal regulations, can be quietly changed within the agency. They can replace the wormwood ban with a limit similar to the EU's. That'll still require a push from within or immediately from without the agency, but you won't need a big Congresional or Senatorial circus over it.

Post-Katrina. I chose only one quote; everything else seemed insignificant in comparison.
QUOTE
1) My parents (87 and 68) swam out of the house on couch cushions…I wasn't in town. It took me 2 weeks to get a text message from someone that found them. They are alive and well today…with some really wild stories to tell.
2) They had to leave my little cat floating on the bed. She had no food or clean water. 3 weeks later, when we were finally allowed to return, we found the cat alive…and still sitting on the bed…just waiting.

TV did not do the horror of Katrina justice. The more I know of it, the more gratefull I am that my mother forced my dad into leaving early.

Ta-Breaux
QUOTE
FWIW, wine spirits used by vintage absinthe makers (the finer ones anyway) were derived from selected varietals and terroir, were prepared using specific methods, and exhibit equally specific qualities. Needless to say, an accurate representation of these spirits cannot be realistically conjured by distilling bottles of wine any more than an accurate representation of a vintage absinthe will be conjured from a recipe book. This being said, I've already put forth more on the subject than it's worth, simply because a good absinthe made with beet or grain spirits will always be better than a lesser absinthe made with 'wine spirits', and I can think of examples of each.

QUOTE
There are definite pros and cons to the legalization of absinthe in the U.S. The obvious upside is simply that 'absinthe' (and I use the word loosely) could be legally distributed (following FDA approval), and made domestically as well. The downside is that with the usual players (as well as new ones) rushing to cash in, at least the initial glut of absinthes that would hit the shelves would almost certainly consist of the typical subpar novelties (and possibly new, domestically produced disappointments) and much more of the nauseating marketing associated therewith.

QUOTE
Once again, I will appear on national television to make the case for absinthe, science vs. myth.
Wish me well!

Gentle Furie
QUOTE
Tonight, however, as I sit here loaded on vodka, I bring a similar yet more important (to me) question to the table: What touches you?
ATM I am sh*tfaced, and for me ( and some others) this state of mind brings about a longing for more. It makes one realize that there is more here than meets the eye. It makes one question what else have others experienced that I can only imagine.
This post is a request for all the more sensitive souls out there to share their more intimate responses to altered states of mind: what music changes you in that moment? Tonight, for me, it was Beind Blue Eyes; originally (I think) done by the Who but more recently and more emotionally (given his tumultuous past public) by Fred Durst and limbizkit.

Uncle wasn't far off in his assessment of 300, and Gentle Furie was given too short of shrift by some folks who apparently had sand in their bajingos. But I digress.
Artemis
Uncle was, to put it mildly, one of the most unique (and funniest) posters we've had here. The only time he became almost completely coherent was when he talked about guitars, but he generally had something interesting to say.
