Description: According to Absinthes.com: When Stefano Rossoni, the Italian distiller behind L'Italienne absinthe, started working on the La Grenouille recipe, his idea was to create an absinthe with a southern and Mediterranean connotation. La Grenouille has a classic backbone of wormwood, green anise, fennel, lemonbalm and hyssop, but is completed with other unique southern herbs to achieve a warm, velvety character.
La Grenouille was born in a family-run distillery Zufanek, producers of the first genuine Czech absinthe St. Antoine. That is another proof that there are some good absinthes in the Czech Republic!

COLOR BEFORE WATER 7/10
Light greenish brown, somewhat towards feuille morte but not very deep.
LOUCHE ACTION 8/10
Properly louching although not so many swirling clouds (water poured). A dripper and patience produced a good layered louche.
COLOR AFTER WATER 8/10
Juicy, anisey, aroma of flowering wormwood and a hint of cardamom before water. During and after water the aromas come into full bloom: the cardamom (kind of) stays behind while more citrusy and absinthe-herbal aromas emerge.
Velvety and kind to the palate, leaves a pleasantly dry after-mouthfeel.
The taste is very well balanced. Anise (and fennel?) leave room for the tongue-tingling, not numbing, sensations provided by the herbal bill.
OVERALL IMPRESSION 9/10
Floral, herbal, balanced; excellent product. Stylish bottling, too.
Tasted without sugar.
